I obviously see the value of Palmieri, but I just don't see us trading our top prospect in Wahlstrom for a guy with one more year on his contract.

What about Zajac? Think we bring him back? I really like Mcleod's game and I'm not sure if Zacha is gonna stay LW. I'd like Zacha as our 3rd C behind Nico and Jack.

I love Zajac but he's just too slow now. Maybe Sharangovich could be 3C and Zacha and permanently stay at wing

Yep. Yep. Cool. This fan also really likes Siegenthaler and Alexeyev, and was surprised to see that someone who knows the Caps have three NHL-ready LHD prospects behind their four NHL LHD would try to trade them a defenseman, rather than the depth center I could see them trying to pick up at the deadline, so they don't have to rush McMichael up if they get into injury trouble in the playoffs. Given that some Devils fans are talking about trading a young center, these two teams could probably work something out, but I agree it won't be for Murray this year.

if the caps had 3 NHL ready LHD prospects, Chara wouldn't still be out on the ice. He's a statue and teams are going to target him as the weak link come the playoffs.

Neither.

Murray would be 2nd/5th type of value. Palmieri would be 1st low to mid prospect.

Together 1st/3rd/Kase/ok prospect.

No way they move JD or Stud for short term pieces.

Zero interest in Kase. None. Zilch.
Has appeared here many times over last year or so as trade piece for NJD and I have always said no.
Honestly, you'd probably have to pay us to take him.
He will likely be non-tendered in off-season anyway.

But I am sure there are other names that could work using your base (1st, 3rd, prospect).
Maybe Beecher (who is out for season BTW), Lohrei, etc. Or young roster player.

....or just Studnicka or Debrusk

Don’t get your hopes up. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Agree on Kase. Swap him for Bjork maybe.

As much as I don’t want to give up anymore picks, I’d do that trade from a Pens perspective

This is an idea I got from Bruins fans. Imagined some would like, others would not.
This deal is Debrusk or Studnicka...B's pick which guy.

studnicka cant be moved unless they get a young center back. hes gotta take 3c or even 2c if krejci doesnt come back next year. both krejci and bergeron are getting up there in age and i wouldnt say coyles a 1c. I dont looooove trading debrusk for rentals. but its an all in move. ide rather trade debrusk for a similar caliber young player on a different team or a clear bonafide upgrade like a hall. but who the hell knows what happens.

He's plus eleven after 22 games. That's tied for 4th among defensemen. So his defense is sound. I'm not gonna argue with you on his looks, because I don't look at men that way. smile I'm just saying his defense is still good.

and im glad its happening to the caps and not the bruins this year for the first time in a long time. Hes still servicable but against a team with speed hes borderline useless.

You're right. Tell you what, when he goes through his dry spell, we'll handle it. We wouldn't want to burden you.

It was reported Lou wouldn’t include wahlstrom in a trade for Taylor hall last season. Wahlstrom is pretty close to untouchable - the only way the isles move him is for a young (23-26) top winger with term. He’s in the 1st year of his ELC , makes no sense to trade him.

this is the same crap boston fans use to say............as the coach told him, developmental role.
He's too slow. It's not playoff hockey yet and +/- is a pick and choose stat. I don't totally hate it, but it hides a lot.
He just can't move anymore, his reaction time is slow, he's going to be the guy they target. Who ever his partner is, is going to be pinned back under heavy pressure because Chara is useless in helping to get the puck and stop the rush. He was getting McAvoy killed which is why they moved on from him. If they had better, he wouldn't be out there.

Lou loves veterans, but there’s no chance he moves a player that singlehandedly made the isles PP lethal. I’m pretty sure Lou hasn’t moved top prospects in the past , he’s not afraid to move picks though

The only time I remember him moving a "top" prospect was when he traded Bergfors for Kovalchuk, but Bergfors obviously wasn't at the level of Wahlstrom (even though he was having a nice rookie year at the time).

No its fine. We'll just be flipping through 2021 draft guide at that point....waiting for the phone to ring.

Lou loves his old Devils though...
He always went and got his guys back. Shannahan, Gomez, Sykora, Arnott, etc etc.

that doesn’t mean he’s going to trade his #1 prospect for the player. I personally don’t like Lou but a lot of people on this site still act like Lou would give up his top prospects like Dobson + wahlstrom for rentals when it’s been reported that lou refused to include Dobson and wahlstrom in trades for mark stone and hall.

Kempny is expected to return around May. Siegenthaler

Orlov-7th among LHD in even strength points over the last five seasons, and 1st in the 2018 playoffs.
Dillon-'nuff said.
Kempny-expected back in May. Won the Cup on top pair, but who knows how recovered he'll be from having surgery in October?
Chara-is an NHL defenseman.

prospects:
Siegenthaler: has played 111 NHL games.
Fehervary: 53% corsi for, last year, in six games. Has some good skill with the puck.
Alexeyev: KHL rookie of the month for January.

But then here's the Caps' center depth chart:

Backstrom (great), Kuznetsov (pretty solid), Eller (doing just terrific), Nic Dowd (improving steadily), TJ Oshie borrowed from 2R (does okay, but the team needs a 2R and he needs experience at center to be playoff ready there), some promising rookies.

So, given there's no cap space, where do you think they should look to add? I know McMichael is gonna be good, but why rush him?

Pre-Covid, I would have said he probably wants Brendan Gallagher's extension. 6 x $6.5m.
Nowadays, dunno...maybe 4 x $5.5m

If it is 4 x 5.5 or in that area Pittsburgh should absolutely look to bring him in. He still has some good seasons left in him.
