Why wouldn't you go after Ekholm in this scenario?

That deal doesn't give NASH much, Nylander for Forsberg is probably more like it.

The picks in all likelihood are late round, Hallander is a meh prospect, Kerfoot is a nice player but he's a 3rd liner on good teams.

nylander has more value than Forsberg, so unless Nashville adds leafs don't involve any trade with nylander.

I wouldn't say Hallander is a meh prospect at all, he has potential to be a very good middle 6, two way centre.

as for kerf, Nashville isn't a god team so he'd be on one of the top 2 lines, plus he can play down the middle and on the wing.

bc the leafs don't need defensemen they need another top 6 winger

The argument that Nashville is a bad team so they should be ok with trading their few good players for more bad ones is something.

but that's not what I'm saying, obviously Forsberg is better than Kerfoot and that's why its not a 1 for 1 trade. they're rebuilding, trading good players for worse ones is what happens during a rebuild

But trading a good player still In his prime with a year left and retaining for garbage isn’t what happens in a rebuild.

it isn't garbage though, and people can suggest what else needs to be added, hence the what will it take title

It would take starting with a piece better than anything on offer here. NSH has too many 3rd line centers who also play wing already. Sissons and Jarnrkok are better, Pitlick and Kunin are younger, with more upside. There's Haula and Cousins too. All of those guys have better contracts than Kerfoot. I get that he's a useful player to the Leafs, that they probably wouldn't want to give up if they had the cap space, but he's much less of an asset to NSH.

Hallander will probably be a fine bottom six player one day, but his ceiling isn't higher than that. Most every team has prospects just like him, and the type of player he'll likely become are cheap to acquire anyway. He adds about as much value as throwing a 4th into the proposal.

The 1st is presumably a late pick (given how TOR is already steamrolling their division, even before loading up with guys like Forsberg) in a weak draft. And that's by far the best piece here.

NSH isn't obligated to trade Forsberg, and the Leafs aren't the only team they can trade with. There isn't enough incentive here for NSH to trade Forsberg even without the retention. I think the gap between what would make it worthwhile for NSH to move Forsberg, and what TOR is willing to part with/can afford is just too wide.

Jarnkrok, pitlick, 2021 2nd, and 2022 2nd for nylander. Since our pick will be a lot higher seems like a little more than what you want to give up for a retained forsberg. Deal?

lol these are always so funny. kerf>jarnkrok, hallander>who ever pitlick is, and a first>a second always.

nylander also literally holds more value than forsberg since he's younger and has more term on his contract. also lets not forget nylander currently has more points, and also had more points last year.

also also, preds are rebuilding, leafs are contending, two completely different situations to be in.

if you're gonna do one of these reverse trades, at least make it closer in value so I can sort of take them seriously

Nylander is younger but not better. Let’s take a look at nylanders linemates and forsberg linemates. Johansen has been forsbergs center most of the time. Johansen<<<<<<<<<<<

nylander is better than forsberg, end of. he's younger, has more term, and just because he plays with a better centre/linemates it doesn't mean he'll produce. nylander is able to put up good numbers because he's very good.
