2021-2022 Roster -- Youth Movement

Created by: McMan97
Team: 2020-21 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 4, 2021
Published: Mar. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Flames should aggressively re-tool for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season & off-season. Can't win with current core and Tre tried to trade a couple guys this past off-season.

Monahan has potential to be traded, but he's shown up offensively generally for the playoffs. Either way, need a new identity and here's some ideas!
Trades
1.
CGY
  1. Liljegren, Timothy
  2. 2021 4th round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Bennett, Sam
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Leafs are going to go after it this year. Flames have two-thirds and receive the lower pick. Leafs would likely protect Bennett along with big four, Mikeyev & Kerfoot.
2.
CGY
  1. Kaut, Martin
  2. Timmins, Conor
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
With Barron & Newhook among others, these two are more trade-able.
COL
  1. Giordano, Mark ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Flames will eat a quarter to half of Gio's salary for the final season. (Will be off-season trade).
3.
CGY
  1. Gostisbehere, Shayne
  2. Hägg, Robert
  3. O'Brien, Jay [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
Philly is still loaded on D with York likely playing next year. They'd probably rather lose Ghost to a trade than expansion.
PHI
  1. Gaudreau, Johnny
  2. Kylington, Oliver
  3. 2021 6th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Seems destined that Johnny will be traded or end up in east-coast. There was a rumoured trade there at one point too.

Bennett is not worth liljegren, he's a borderline third liner

Fair. But he's also a playoff performer, sand-paper (which they're missing other than Simmonds) and they retain his RFA rights. Also Dubas tried to acquire Brodie & Bennett the year before for Kadri so Dubas had/has interest.

Yeah, but Gaudreau has his limitations. Likely the return should be Patrick or Frost, but O'Brien is over a point a game at BU so it's not like he's a slouch.

Hall fetched a lot less then that one season prior. I wouldn't be so sure.

At any given time one of those guys plays his off-side. Gio would be a huge for a team contending that needs a veteran & capable D-man like him.

Like I said O'Brian is a B+ prospect, he's a 21 y/o former 1st rounder playing in an 18+ league. His numbers last year make me think his age plays a big role on his new found success

Thats fair. I think Philly would do one of Frost or Patrick. Would that change the trade value much in your eyes?

Well Bennett is 4th liner, Leafs don't have a spot for him Totally untrue that the Leafs don't have sandpaper....Hyman, Thornton, Simmons, Mikheyev, Tavares, Matthews.

Personally I like Girard more on the right it has opened up his offense and COL doesn’t need an expensive rental to play 3rd pairing because when (if) COL gets healthy this year Byram, EJ will be a great 3rd pairing. Timmins and Kaut aren’t assets you move for a guy destined for 3rd pairing minutes no matter how much is retained.

Ghost is a cap dump, the flames have gio, valimaki and hanifin who are all ahead of him, Same with hagg and o’Brian could bust who knows. So in summary the flames get two players in a position that they don’t need help at and a b prospect. 😂😂😂 hall got a lot more and the flames aren’t trying to rebuild so they wouldn’t really want prospects. That trade isn’t even remotely close to getting gaudreau, that a garbage trade for Calgary they would hang up the phone so fast after hearing that offer.

That calgary trade might just be the worst Gaudreau trade of all time. You know he's literally almost a ppg player his entire career right?
