I don't think they want to move Mangiapane to add that RW though. Donskoi is solid but I think Mangiapane would be worth more.

Mangiapane is probably one of the few players that will be extremely hard to get

Unless Calgary want a garbage RW they're going to have to give to get. Not necessarily saying Donskoi is that guy though. Feels like they've been looking for RHS RW's for 5 years.

I don't think it's a matter of more. I don't think they trade Mangiapane.

you heavily overrate Donskoi here. He's not worth Mangiapagne alone

Mangiapagne on his current contract is worth more than Donskoi. Though Donskoi gets so much unjustified hate here he is just a tad over paid but Sakic knew that’s what he had to do when he signed him.

I don’t think he is over rating Donskoi, Donskoi is a 30pt machine that can slide up in the line up, play special teams and be a very good depth guy. Unless Mangiapagne takes another step up that’s basically who he is becoming albeit cheaper.

30 point player for younger player with a higher ceiling and a solid tandem goalie is not at all fair

Oh my bad, yeah that’s overrating him I don’t think Mangiapagne has all that much higher ceiling than Donskoi he has 1 30 pt season and is going to be 25 in a month. That’s what I was making the comparison to.

I added Rittich to balance the cap, but I guess a pick would need to be added to compensate for his value rather than just being a cap dump effectively.

He’s currently on pace for 29 GOALS if this was an 82 game season. He also has some of the best underlying numbers in the league, and is fast and good defensively. Ever heard of a late bloomer?

Donskoi is on pace for 25 goals too. Small sample sizes and all that...

Yeah but Mangiapane was projected to break out, and is simply living up to his potential. It’s different from an overpaid vet that has established what his expectations are.

He’s currently on pace oh yeah for an 82 game season which they aren’t playing and because that always holds up, not sleight of hand mister. Heck I like his game and he has stepped it up, but he is what Donskoi is a rock solid middle 6 guy that can slide up the lineup in a pinch. It’s not a bad thing but if either of those guys is a top line player on your team you have trouble. And for what it’s worth Donskoi is on pace for 50pts 😉

Even if you accept they're the same kind of player (which I do not), why would Calgary give away the younger and cheaper one? That doesn't make them any better and helps Colorado.

Magiapane has had meaningfully better results at 5v5, 5v4, and 4v5 than Donskoi has, so if one of these players is performing above their true ability, that player is not Mangiapane. Calgary would actually be better if they gave Mangiapane more ice time, as he has been one of their best players. Not to mention, he has been winning all of his minutes at an elite clip. Unless Colorado is offering a significant return there is no reason for the Flames to trade him, and that's all before moving Rittich at retained salary.

Bennett, and at the very most, a late-round pick would probably be a more reasonable package for Donskoi, who would probably need to be paired with 2nd/3rd round pick. however the Flames would have to figure it out cap-wise.
