That probably won't get it done for Ekholm, even if I wish it did lol tears of joy

That certainly makes the back line more experienced. I'd be interested in knowing if Forbort has any interest in resigning with the Jets. He and Pionk have been solid and at $1M per season, that is incredible value. I doubt he returns for $1M as he deserves more.

Nashville declines. They will want an offer in the neighborhood of a 1st, Samberg and a roster player.

I don't know, that's a pretty good haul for Ekholm. An NHL ready, expansion draft exempt, former 1st round pick. An expansion draft eligible NHL Dman to expose (they have Boroweiki for this already, but then they can still flip one of them for a late pick). Then a 2nd round pick plus Columbus' 3rd round pick which, lets face it, is almost as good as a late 2nd rounder.

This offer is essentially a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Ekholm. I don't think there's that much better out there with the flat cap and the expansion draft looming. For us we either expose Ekholm, or we keep Ekholm and expose DeMelo as a result of this trade so, there's that too.

They won't get that from the Jets, so there isn't a trade to be made here if that's the case.

agreed. If Ekholm is available 20 teams will be calling and willing to pay a similar price. I dont want the jets to deal Samberg

He is available for sure and with the way he is playing and scoring since returning from injury 4 goals in his last 5 games there wont be a shortage of teams coming for him.

I read Wiebe's article and he doesn't propose the package above, but he doesn't appear to have a handle on NSH's needs either. Vesalainen probably isn't good enough as the main piece coming back, and his suggestion the Preds would be interested in Berdin seems really out to lunch when they have Ingram and Askarov in the system.

NSH and CBJ both decline.

That's probably going to be a no from the Jackets. I don't see Niku really adding anything to the blueline (not with all the guys we already have at LD), so we can probably get someone to bid higher.

Ekholm would be the best defenceman on the team, so I mean yeah it would cost a lot.

I think two of
Stanley
Vesa
2021 first rounder
AND a B/C prospect (Suess?)
I think that gets the ball rolling.
I think that does get Savard. He's a UFA and Niku is a right handed shot with team control. Plus a 2nd. Should be enough

I don't recall Wiebe being correct very often when it comes to trade ideas.

Pionk is doing great and it is kind of close this year, but I would still take Ekholm if I am being honest. He's been great for along time

Lol.

That’s close to what Taylor Hall got at the deadline. No way Ekholm gets that. Vesalainen and a first is enough

He’s a top 4 defenseman signed for another season on a very team friendly deal. I understand People are really high on Samberg then he doesn’t get moved and gets replaced with someone else.
