I'm sure it's just to recapture cap space.... every team does this on off days with the ELC kids

It looks like to me that OTT just wants to showcase their pending UFA's. honestly, Coburn, Reilly and Gundbranson should not be seeing minutes over Brannstrom. The kid needs to learn to play in the bigs without fear of being demoted after every game

It's literally nothing. They've done it like 30 times. Just a cost savings measure, as they don't have to pay him his NHL salary for two days when they aren't playing. Every team is doing this.

He's not being demoted though. Just a paper transaction to save money. Common practice this season. Every team does it. He's still going to play.

Laf, Kakko, Shesty, etc have all been on it yet never miss a game. No biggy. The 2 days he is on the taxi squad they don't have to pay him the 50K/day or whatever it works out to be... salary cap isn't just the 56 or 82 games, it includes all the days off in between also.. just a way to manipulate the cap

It's not a big deal. It's done because a guy like Coburn who has mostly been on the taxi squad this year has his full contract guaranteed whether his contract is buried or on the main roster. Brannstrom by comparison has a base salary of 830K While on the main NHL roster, but if he's in the AHL or the Taxi squad, it goes to 70K.

Gotta be extremely frustrating to be Erik Brannstrom though. Losing thousands of dollars every day when it happens. Probably gonna miss out on like 200K or something by the end of the season.
