Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 5, 2021
Published: Mar. 5, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Key Note:

- Vesey is not as bad as some people think. He is very effective on the PK
- Leafs need another Hyman rather than another Kerfoot (Granlund)
- Devils are not making the playoffs. Sell off Palmieri, attain a draft pick, and if they want, re-sign him after the season while Kerfoot is on the Devils for another two seasons

The usual bad trade for the Leafs. Trading for winger who not playing well this year. Trading a competent centre/winger for winger, a position that the Leafs are flush. Then there is the quarantine period before the players even practices with the Leafs
I'm sure Palermeiri decliners as he doesn't want to be in quarantined in a hotel alone.,

Key note: Kerfoot was drafted by and walked away from the NJ Devils (doubtful they'd welcome him back with open arms)

Also, why is Vesey your first key note when you've got him sitting on the taxi squad?

Vesey has many goals as Palermieri this season. Why have so many trades for middling players, mostly wingers coming to the Leafs. 90% of these trades don't help the Leafs now, 99% hurt the future.

Well, I'm glad the Leafs aren't trading Kerfoot for three goal Palmieri. Wouldn't do that trade straight up

For half salary retained... Devils can have Petan. Otherwise no we don't need him. Certainly not giving up a versatile forward in Kerfoot for him.

Probably because the Leafs don't have capspace to acquire a legit star player, and sometimes it's not a bad idea to buy low on guys when they're shooting % is at a career low (kind of what is happening with Tavares this year).

Palmieri >>>>>>>>> Bennett, Gaudette, etc.

He's playing pretty well, just having bad puck luck, he obviously has enough of a track record showing he's a solid player (unlike other regular trade targets mentioned above).

But that trade isn't buying low. Giving up the dependable Kerfoot who has two plus years and a second. Then you lose Kerfoot, and hope Palmierei (or any US based player) comes back on track after quarantine. And RW certainly isn't a position of need for the Leafs.

I'm not saying I'd do it. Main reason is I'm not trusting Engvall as 3C based on a couple of decent games.

But to outright dismiss it, and call Palmieri another middling winger based on pure stat watching is kind of ridiculous.

Also, Nylander very obviously prefers LW. So there is a bit of an opening at 2RW.

Leafs have not found the best fit on the 2nd line after trying Vesey, Simmonds, Mikheyev, Hyman, Kerfoot, Barabanov, etc.

Palmieri is a better hockey player than all of those guys, and it's not really close (maybe not Hyman).

Again, not saying I'd do it, but I can fully understand why the OP proposed it.

Gee you gave the exact reason why Kerfoot shouldn't be traded....."I'm not trusting Engvall as 3C based on couple of decent games". No I don't understand the proposal at all though other might.
