Yes. Adding Hertl gives COL one of the best center cores in the league, and if they're all in on a Cup run then they make moves to lock that down. He's also got another year left on his contract, so their Center depth is set until 2023, which means they may be able to go for two in a row. SJ is taking on Compher and retaining salary.

Jeez... so dramatic. He's projected to be good, but no way he's thaaat good.

Are you gonna need him for a cup win this year? Next? Probably not.
Are the Avs doing worse than they should be because your top line is the only line consistently performing? Yup.

Everyone thought the Avs would dominate. They are not. The center depth needs fixing, and Byram is a nice future, but completely ineffectual right now.

I'm not gonna lie... I hate the thought of losing Hertl, even if it is for the trade above.

It's expansion mitigation. If they don't do something FLA's gonna lose Driedger for free. A 3rd for signing rites is high.

Then lucky for you you won't have to trade Hertle. Reason 1 as someone else has said it's 1 Bowen Byram too many. 2 what about Joe Sakic history as GM says he's willing to trade a 1? Nothing i see.

It’s 20 games into the season the Avs have played 12 different dmen, They’ve played Miska as the back up goalie and had a Covid stoppage. Byram is a 19 yr old playing a regular shift on one of the best d-corps and has flashed absolute brilliance at times and is on an ELC. Such an easy no for the Avs.

20 games into the season avs have the same record that they did last year and they were a top west seed, on the path to winning the west before covid

So let’s stop making something up like the avs aren’t doing as good as they should,

Reason 3. Last 2 years, two 2nd Round exits. What about this team has you convinced that the Avs can go all the way? The Avs need a 2C, Kadri ain't the guy.

If a 2C like Hertl goes on the trade bloc, then there will be competition. All teams overpay during the TDL, because they're competing for depth in a limited market.

If the Avs can't handle VGK what makes y'all think they could handle TBL.

I watched them make two 2nd Round exits in two years. I was at two of the games in SJ in 2019, and I watched them, just like you, on TV last September, when their center depth was performing markedly better.

Until they fix that they're all sizzle no steak.

And if you watched them you would have known they were playing their 3rd string goalie against Dallas and lost in OT, and against the sharks if it wasn’t for a ticky tack offside call against landeskog they are on their way to then next round

But hey you’re more of an expert about a team you don’t cheer for

    Bitter guy over here...

They lost because they didn't adequately prepare for the challenge.

I think a lot of NHL GMs would trade Byram for Hertl, no question. If your window is open NOW, you trade futures for a better shot, no question. But there are some GMs who operate on a longer horizon. Keeping Byram gives Colorado a wider, if shallower, window.

You can find success either way, but the only teams since the lockout who've won with the latter approach are the Red Wings and maybe the Bruins.

If the refs make the right call on Zadorov in game 6, there isn't a game 7 to worry about. Anyone can play that game.

No just enjoy dunking on guys who try to explain the team I cheer for, all you’re doing is making yourself sound like a talking head spitting out cliches, what’s next you’re doing to talk about grit and getting pucks in deep

Clearly you don’t have a clue and it’s amusing
