Eichel trade ideas

Created by: kedogs00
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 7, 2021
Published: Mar. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm only using teams where i think he could realistically go.

I know there was some Boston chatter, but I dont see it happening. They are in our divison and dont have the pieces to offer. Ducks seem like a possibilty but I dont see a deal getting done without Zegras and I know Ducks fans will be upset to even see a Zegras deal.

For all those folks that may cry that Eichel isnt Gretzky, remember he is (normally) a top 10 player, that's 24, plays center, and has been improving each year, with this odd yr being an exception. Up until this year he was killing penatlies, manning a top 5 PP, and has drastically improved in the FO circle this yr.
Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Burakovsky, André
  2. Byram, Bowen
  3. Compher, J.T.
  4. Newhook, Alex [Reserve List]
  5. 2021 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
AB and JT more to even out cap. It could be JT and Donskoi, but it woud cost COL an addition prospect or pick.
COL
2.
BUF
  1. Byfield, Quinton
  2. Carter, Jeff
  3. Kaliyev, Arthur
  4. 2021 1st round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
Carter do move some cap in the process. I just don't see a deal being made that doesnt include Byfield and I know LA fans dont like that. But I think if you take Byfield out you'd have to add Turcotte and Villardi.
LAK
3.
BUF
  1. Boldy, Matthew [Reserve List]
  2. Dumba, Matt
  3. Fiala, Kevin
  4. 2021 1st round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
MIN has the right pieces IMO. This trade still leaves them a solid D Core, Kaprikov, Rossi, Greenway, JEE, etc
MIN
4.
BUF
  1. Byron, Paul
  2. Kulak, Brett
  3. Romanov, Alexander
  4. Suzuki, Nick
  5. 2021 1st round pick (MTL)
  6. 2022 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Personally, MTL has what I would want if I was GM KA. I don't see a MTL trade due to being in the same divison when they get back to normal. But MTL would really have to through out a crazy offer to get Eichel IMO. That's why I dont see it happening
MTL
5.
BUF
  1. Chytil, Filip
  2. Kakko, Kaapo
  3. Reunanen, Tarmo
  4. Strome, Ryan
  5. 2021 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
I believe this will ultimately be Eichels destination. Makes the most sense to me. They have the assets, they have the cap space, aren't in the same division, and the draft pick will be top 10, possibly top 5.
NYR
6.
BUF
  1. Glass, Cody
  2. Krebs, Peyton
  3. Smith, Reilly
  4. 2021 1st round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Admittedly, this is the team i know the least about their prospect pool. I've head of Glass a bit, but not much on Krebs. I know he's one of their better prospects. I realize they need to move cap in this deal. Not sure who they'd move as all their players with bigger contracts are all key contributors.
VGK
7.
BUF
  1. Dubé, Dillon
  2. Kylington, Oliver
  3. Monahan, Sean
  4. 2021 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Dont see Monahan waiving

How I'd rank these

1. Montreal
2. LA Kings
3. Minnesota (but no center)
4. Colorado / NY Rangers (tie)
5. Vegas

MIN would have Eichel and Joel EE as #1 & 2 centers. That's a pretty nice 1 - 2 punch.

i would rather have caufield than romanov, i think MTL would rather give up caufield IF they had to choose between the 2

I think the MTL trade is the best

Maybe swap Rossi for Fiala?
I'd think Sabres would want at least one top-6 center coming back.

I agree. And Suzuki alone clinched it for me.
He is best piece coming back.

I like Caulfield, don't get me wrong. I think the need for Romanov would be greater than Caulfield. Our D core is rough. MTL has a handful of really solid D prospects, Romanov probbaly the best. Caulfield will most likely play RW and we have Reinhart, Olofsson depending on which wing he want to play, Quinn coming up, and JJP coming up. We can address D in this upcoming draft if we make this kind of trade, but Romanov can play now. And this trade wouldnt need the team to rebuild IMO. You have impact players hitting the roster right away.

Rossi isnt ready to play, but that's why I grabbed Boldy. They will most likely come up at similar times. I like Boldy's NHL potential over Rossi's. I think Fiala is key to this deal.

buf has Johnson, Samuelson, and Laaskonen for D. Not to mention Bryson and Borgen

Sabres only really have Peterka, Quinn, Huglen, and Ruostolainen for forwards.

I would honestly take Caufield anytime over Romanov

D next year could look like

Dahlin-Borgen
Bryson-Joki
McCabe-Samuelsson/Laaskonen

We dont have any room for Romanov

(lines are assuming we trade risto and miller)

Yes, we do have a few potentially NHL defenders. But I believe Romanov is better then any defender in the pipeline we have. I dont see a high ceilling for anyone we have. Dahlin and Joki both seem to be regressing. But anyway, i dont think we can go wrong with either ROmanov or Caufield. I just personally see a greater need for Romanov.

I like the LA trade. With byfield OR turcotte and villardi/faqemo. Plus you wouldnt see eichel 8 times a year unless you bought center ice and wanted to stay up late.

Really? The guys name is fa(g)emo. Can this be added to the filter or something?

I blame ralph for Joki and Dahlin. Dahlin was amazing under Housley and then when ralph came in he died.

Joki i am more concerned about, but its only one season and he was really solid last season

I absolutely hate that you are right and that despite having boatloads of D, we still have to look for more high end ones, despite the absolute fact that we cannot score nearly enough and also need forwards.

That would be a hard no from COL. COL under no circumstances is trading Byram or Newhook let alone both for a move that instantly puts them in cap hell makes it exceedingly if not impossible to resign Makar AND Landeskog. If the NHL existed in a cap free world maybe, but no way in Covid cap NHL does COL even entertain the idea, because as elite as Eichel is for a 2C upgrade he isn’t a Byram, Newhook, Burakovsky 1st round pick better than Kadri.

All of these are fantasy land stuff. Eichel will give Buffalo a good return, but they're just not getting players that teams trying to contend now (which would be any team going after Eichel) need now. That means no Fiala or Dumba off the Wild. Buffalo would get futures, so good prospects and draft picks along with a cap dump as needed to make the salary work.

Boldy and Rossi will both be ready for camp next year. Boldy could still be signed this year, but it would be kind of counter productive to sign Boldy and play him in the NHL and burn a year of his ELC.

Boldy + Fiala + Dumba + 1st is too much for MN to trade. It take a big chuck out of the wing depth for the near future.

It also doesn't really do a lot of BUF, it's a lot of redundant players in their lineup and huge hole at the center position. Generally speaking for lineups, not exact value: Dumba = Risto, Fiala = Reinhart, Boldy = Olofsson (maybe?).
