NJD Maybe Buyers and Sellers

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2020-21 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 7, 2021
Published: Mar. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not sure how close these are on Dumba and Kunin, but two guys I'd really like to pick up either at deadline or before expansion draft if they are being moved.

Most the other trades are UFA rental deals (Vatanen a candidate for waivers at this point)

(yes, I know I have 4 contracts retained...Subban deal would be after season, pre-expansion)

Two NCAA signings from their Reserve List: Tyce Thompson (probable) and Case McCarthy (possible)
Three call-ups from AHL: Nolan Foote (probable), Reilly Walsh (possible), Nikita Okhotyuk (possible)

(and yes, my healthy scratch list is too long...some of these to AHL some to Taxi)

I don't know what the particulars with the deal would be, just wanted to flag two guys I'd like to grab.
If we could do so without losing the pick, great.

I think the Nashville offer is intriguing. Kunin is someone who hasn’t really had the chance to show what he can do.

NJ is in a similar situation to Ottawa, where their 1st is probably not on the table, which makes a Dumba deal difficult. You could add some kind of stipulation that it's a top 10 protected 1st, so it reverts to 2022 if NJ doesn't turn it around (if it's a deadline deal). Alternatively, I think Mercer could replace the 1st, and then just add from there.

I see Zacha is having a breakout year, how is he viewed by the organization? I have to assume Hughes and Hischier are still expected to be the centers of the future? Unless they're just going to shift Hughes to wing.

Looking at the trade history of the pieces involved serves as a very good reference point.

Gusev fetched a 2nd and a 3rd when he was traded to New Jersey. Calgary is in need of a Top 6 RW who shoots right and this could be a bargain for the Flames.

Kunin fetched Bonino + a 2nd + a 3rd for Minnesota and could become a ray of sunshine for the Predators, once he comes back from injury.

As for the Subban-Dumba trade, the Devils get the same type of player that Minnesota gets and add 1 million to their cap hit while Minnesota gains 1 million in cap relief.

And you're giving Minnesota a possible lottery pick. That's not an ideal situation for the Devils to say the least. smile

These are a lot of Bruins fans saying definitely this, definitely that. I will stick with this deal for now. Value-wise it’s probably about right.

you need to find another team for Zajac my man, hes not at all a fit on the avs at his age, skating ability and at even 50% retained, not worth it

Richard does every UFA C trade imaginable, just bc he posted it once doesnt mean its the best option or the right option

with the current avs injury woes, trying to get Dell and Vatanen or Murray would be a better use of Cap space than Zajac

I personally don’t want to trade Kunin. He has some good offensive ability and Nashville needs that. He’s young also so he can be apart of the rebuild.

Send Gusev to Cal for Bennett
Or to minny with a plus to get dumba (kaprizov will he happy)
Or to Pitt for one of the young defenders, add where necessary
PK can't be moved with that contract but try
Palms as a rental, I feel he might come back on a decent deal
Zajac to the island
Could try Palms and Zajac retained with an add for wahlstrom (probably not though) and rake back 7ncle Leo
I'd try and keep Dell
Stuff like that

Gusev and a + doesn't get Dumba. We have no interest in Gusev.

1. Im fine with the Preds trade
2. Brutal for NJ
3. Good with that trade
4. Good trade, maybe try to get more
5. Good but make the pick conditional based on how the Avs finish
6. Good
7. Yes, bye bye Sami

MIN has expansion draft problem in that they can only protect so many d-man.
Dumba likely left unprotected.
And not many teams moving to acquire him and $6 million.
So maybe its off....but probably not way way way off.

No, it's extremely far off. We'll protect him if we don't trade him. It's a bad offer. I told you what would need to be involved to make a deal happen. Your offer is nowhere close to adequate.
