Description

Now that Carlo is going to be out for "a while" and has been listed as 'week to week' the Bruins defense is bare. Guys will need to step up to fill holes that Carlo Lauzon, and miller filled. These next 5-10 games will be a very important segment for Don Sweeney and the Bruins. This will really test their young defenseman and tell them what they have. If they struggle in these next ten games, then it is a telling sign that Sweeney needs to a legit top-4dman to stay competitive this season (ekholm), if the young guys hold their own, then sweeney can either focus on finding another forward, or just a depth defenseman to build up the backend.

Cmon, you know the situation with the expansion draft. Ekholm and boston should never be in the same sentence until after this season is over.

If you trade for ekholm and protect him you lose gryz but not lauzon. Dont do it protect gryz you lose lauzon keep gryz. So would you rather have lauzon and ekholm without gryz or gryz without lauzon and ekholm or how do you think it shakes out?

"if the young guys hold their own" Disagree, this team needs a top4 LD even if they play well until Carlo returns. No top pair LD and only one top4 LD, it won't work in the playoffs (if you want to win).

Look, if they want to win the cup, getting Ekholm can help them SIGNIFICANTLY, and I understand the expansion situation, but there are always ways around not being able to protect certain guys. If the bruins trade for Ekholm and win the cup, I think it will be okay if they lose Gryz or Lauzon in the expansion draft.

Losing Grzelcyk in expansion skews the value of the trade to the point where there is no possibility of Nashville and Boston agreeing upon terms. It’s just so outlandish we might as well talk about McDavid trades. It’s not happening. No shot.

I think you lose gryz or lauzon to seattle no matter what you trade for so having ekholm is maybe even more important to next season as it is to this season. I dont believe trading for someone with term is a bad idea.

Assuming we trade Vaak and a 1st for him then is the above lineup talented, experienced, deep and battle tested enough at all positions to legitimately get out of the East, beat Vegas, Colorado or St. Louis in a 7 game series and then one of Toronto, Montreal, Tampa or Carolina in another 7 game series? If you think so then make the trade. I don't think so I would not make the trade and would save my bullets for after the expansion draft and next year.

Ekholm should not be one of the options Sweeney looks for at all. He needs to target expiring Top4 LD not a guy with term since the expansion draft. Plus Top4 LD isn't the primary issue with this team, Lauz and Zboril are proving they can hang with that responsibility. 5on5 scoring is still the primary issue imo.
