Don’t really want edler from a jets perspective. I like him, just think he’s too slow now and doesn’t help as much as I would like if I’m trading a 2nd for him.

Really, eh? Honestly, while true that Edler has slowed down, he is still a legit defender in the NHL. Sheltering his minutes (ie. 16-18 mins/night), he provides real value. Maybe a second is a little high but I feel he really helps out the WPG blueline.

The problem is that we don’t need guys who can play 16-18 sheltered minutes a night. We have plenty of guys for that role. We want a guy who can ply 18-20 mins a night against the other team’s top 6. Someone who can be a stable partner for JoMo or pionk and has some size and can clear the net. Edler doesn’t provide that , you said so yourself.

Edler can still absorb top minutes and doesn't need to be sheltered if in the right role. His footspeed is slow, but his penalty killing and defensive ability hasn't regressed much. I think he would be fantastic with Pionk or Morrissey.

Edler is still averaging 20mins per game. The only ice time he’s lost over the last two seasons is pp time. 2yrs ago he played 1st pp and ATOI was 24mins (roughly the same as his previous 10 seasons). Last year Hughes took pp1 and Edler dropped to 22 ATOI. This year Schmidt took pp2 and Edler dropped to 20 ATOI. 5on5 and pk minutes are about the same as they have been the majority of his career.

He would be a great partner for Pionk (RHD) and easily worth a 2nd. That being said I would be shocked if he waived his NMC.

So while it make sense money wise to swap DD for Eriksson for our roster we actually need the dman compared to the winger. Hes literally our only ld under contract for next season.

Edler likely doesn't waive and isn't really a fit for what the Jets need anyway, need a RHD that can play with Morrissey, Forbort has been solid with Pionk.

At least right now, the Leaf like Engvall, who can also play centre over Pearson.

Dekeyser actually has a place and purpose in Detroit. Eriksson would not. No deal.

You completely missed the point. He’s too slow now imo which results in the 20mins a night he plays not being played at the level the jets need. From what I’ve seen from him, he would only be a marginal upgrade on Forbort (who has been great) next to pionk, which isn’t what we should be paying a 2nd for. It’s that simple. I’m not saying he’s not worth a 2nd, just saying he’s not to the jets.

Anyways, forbort has been great, it’s more important to get a partner for JoMo first.

Therefore, for those reasons, edler isn’t a great fit for the jets. Simple

I disagree. The jets have already seen what slow d-men does in that top 4. The jets play a fast and mobile game from the backend, edler doesn’t fit that role. I’m not saying we need elite skaters, but edler is well below average at this point.

I also don’t think he can absorb top mins anymore. I mean, at least 3 or 4 goals the jets scored on the canucks this season have been a direct result of edler being too slow to keep up with the big and fast wingers the jets have. The teams in the west division are all built the same. They are big and fast. Elder isn’t built for the role that the jets woudl need him to play anymore
