I mean nothing would make it a good trade from an Oilers perspective. But Laf, Fox and Shesterkin would be the core of the Oilers needs. It's just that filling the top player in the world hole might be hard as the next step after filling these needs, even though Drai ain't half bad.

personally if the rangers have to trade shesty or fox with laf its a no. fox is our 1 dman and shesty is our 1 goalie. laf, not that hes expandable, has support on the left wing, same as kakko

Well there ya go. Trading for McDavid would destroy any team's current core, because McDavid is the core. I think McD is only going to another team in FA if he ever does, the cap era and the end of Pocklington-types lining their own pockets makes trading the top ranked and paid player virtually impossible.

Swap Kakko and Robertson with Laf and Lundkvist -- McDavid won't get traded, but that's at least closer to me. Probably add another one of their top D prospects (keep Robertson or add Schneider or something)
