Let's see , a near NHL ready Dman....cheap for three years, under control for another four years , for a nice LWer with 1.5 years till UFA. What do the rebuilding Leafs do? I'm getting excited just thinking about it. No deal from the Habs unfortunately.

Giving up nothing off the roster, although a Dman with pretty good upside and likely a 20-30 overall pick! It's likely in the ball park although I think if Leafs were really looking to deal JVR they would likely want a top 4 D (with top 2 potential) that can play immediately! Not the worst I've seen or heard though!

And is he still on the blueline, or with the Russian Jr's! Good upside, great prospect but "NOT ON THE ROSTER"!

The Leafs are in the middle of a rebuild. What do they care if he's on an NHL roster or not?
The Leafs would have Serg in the building before they hung up the phone with Montreal.

Caphead: You would think, that the only teams that would be really interesting in JVR would be teams that are Cup contenders....a team that could take on his salary and knowing he might only be around for 1.5m years
And likely Cup contenders aren't going to part with a top 2 or top 4 Dman.....because they are going for the Cup, and that would likely couldn't fill that spot on defence.
So likely, the Leafs have to take high end "prospects.". For instance if Patches was hurt in Montreal,,,,the Habs would have a great interest in JVR I presume. Ducks might need scoring at the LW and the Ducks do have NHL ready or near ready Dmen that are available. Just think it's unlikely to get good current Dman back for JVR. But two excellent prospects would be nice. Or even one Sergachev would be perfect for the Leafs.
