Orlov >>> Dillon. Plus, no way Kempny comes back from that injury and is top pairing dman. At best, he's bottom pairing.

Agreed on both counts. Orlov is consistently a scapegoat of Caps fans, but he's generally good. He's also better offensively than Dillon. Kempny was struggling last season, and hasn't really been the same since he tore his hamstring. I can't imagine he'd get playing time ahead of someone like Fehervary either.

Also, I doubt that Samsonov gets a $3M AAV contract unless he grabs the starting goalie reins and plays really well down the stretch. If he doesn't do that, he's not going to have a ton of leverage to command a $3M AAV contract.

Do not want Kempny but only as a 7th D now but his salary is a problem. I do think someone of Orlov's salary amount might have to move only because of what they might end up paying Ovi and Vrana with raises. I like Orlov AND Dillon (he has been very good too lately, like Orlov) so I would hope Seattle goes with one of our bottom 6 not named Eller (protected) and stay away from our D men and goaltending, fingers crossed.

And maybe that's what the org (bmac with coach agreement) is doing in not letting him play as much this year as he hopes so that they can keep his next contract low in salary? Don't know how this affects Seattle's view of Vanacek but he isn't up until the year after so if the Caps could get away with it, they would only be paying 2 to 3 million total next year for the both of them.

Why wouldn't the Caps keep Orlov??? If you think protecting Brenden Dillon is the better move than I disagree.

Orlov is better but he's making a lot which with Vrana Ovi and Sammy needing new deals and the cap not going up they'll need the money from somewhere.
