I wouldn't think it's all that high, as for so many Sabres at the moment. I would think Marody and the 2022 3rd plus some salary to offset (Turris?) might make sense. But who knows. Like the idea, but I can't imagine Holland will part with too much considering the deadline logistics, he'll shop for bargains where the cost won't create a hole in the roster for 2 weeks while the team awaits the quarantine protocol to finish.

Buffalo will certainly have to retain for virtually teams wanting to acquire Staal just for cap reasons. And teams won't want to send a useful player on the roster back on the trade.
Gotta think there will be willing buyers for Staal. 2nd rounder and mid prospect might be the price.

Since he’s probably going to be the top 3 rental available, I think a 2nd is his max return

The question is does he want to waive to go to Canada and quarantine for 2 weeks.

Based on what I read it sounds like the oilers aren’t in his 10 team no trade clause

I don't think that's an issue especially considering his family is in Ontario. The bigger issue might be for the Canadian team trading for him or any player on a US team.

but that is why he might have Canadian teams on his NTC, just to avoid border crossing. Depends on where his wife and kids are...still in Minny? I think its probably safe to assume its very difficult to relocate your family cross border even as an athlete, even if its possible at all.

Players go on ten day road trips, so being away from the family probably isn't a big issue. The 14 day quarantine is, and then back to practice to get in game shape. Staal probably wants to go to a true contender in his maybe in last NHL season . Does that include Edmonton?

You’re not getting the point. It would be multiple months away from their family bc they probably won’t be able to join them across the border, after the bubble which a lot of players hated bc of that, it could be a reason why players would nix a trade,
