Probably worth it if the Oilers use the cap space wisely

GMs have a scale of so many million is worth this draft pick and that draft pick. But what I'm getting at is 1 first isn't enough to dump Neal. I think Oilers add a good prospect as well.

They can afford RNH without moving Neal but moving him would allow for upgrade options in other areas

Oilers have more cap space than the Sharks by about 10 million. Cap space isnt the issue.

To save 1.9 million. Not likely
1.9 is the buy out price, its not worth a first and a prospect at all

His cap hit is 1.9 aav per year approximately his actual cost totals out to approximately 8 million. Real money matters. It would be more than a 1st to dump him.

Well then the Oilers don't consider this and we can just move on.

They’d absolutely consider moving Neal to save from the dead cap, not the fear of real dollars. don’t think value is completely off for a rebuilding team looking to weaponize cap

I agree the Oilers should look to move him for the cap space. My argument is that if the Sharks took him on to buy him out it will cost them 8 million so 1 1st round pick isn't enough Sharks should ask for more like a 1st and possibly a good prospect. Maybe one of the Oilers young defenseman since they can't protect them all from Seattle, not really sure just spit balling.

The 1st has more value than the $1.9M when the team has plenty of cap space. The 2022 draft is supposed to be one of the deepest in history too - no way I'm giving up that pick without getting a damn good return. And $1.9M isn't it.

Not happening. The Oilers can buyout Neal for a $1.9M cap hit, that cap hit isn't worth a 1st round pick in one of the deepest drafts in history. They have TONS of cap space going forward, that young player will be far more valuable for far longer than the bottom-6 winger that the $1.9M will buy. Let alone adding a young defenseman!

Nope. They can buy him out for $1.9M, they won't spend a 1st to save just $1.9M. That money will buy a bottom-6 winger - would you trade a 1st for a bottom-6 winger? Nope.

In which case this trade doesn't make sense for the Oilers they can just do their own buyout. Really getting conflicted messages from Oiler fans on this.

1 Oilers fan that doesn't look long term. No way most of us do this deal to move out Neal who is valuable to our PP
