Probably Best to Hold Off on Eichel

Created by: Shakabakes
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 10, 2021
Published: Mar. 10, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Zibenejad shouldn't be as bad next year (especially in a Contract year).

Strome (who will also be playing in a Contract year) has actually picked up his game alot. I think we can officially silence the Naysayers who say he only benefits from playing with the Breadman. No Panarin, no problem over these last 2 weeks.

Chytil needs to work on his Face Offs. But every other facet of his game has improved dramatically.

Could still make a lower Cost Center signing for needed depth. But the Rangers really aren't that bad next year.

With the improvement of the young Wings (Lafreniere and Kakko) coupled with the addition of newer Wings (Barron and Kravtsov), it can only help our Center production more.

If the Eichel package is easy to swallow, then fine. But it would be a horrible idea to give up numerous current pieces to improve one spot. Really like what Gorton is building here.

next year they are dropping a lot of cap from Smith, Johnson, and buyouts, but they will also need to be conservative since they will have Chytil, Lindgren, Shesterkin, Buchnevich, Fox, Kakko, Zibanejad, and Strome to resign within the next 2 years

Strome is 100% gone after his 2 years are up

Eichel would be nice...very nice...upgrade for Strome. But it doesn't sound all that likely. Barkov and Pettersson would be nice too. I think we will eventually get one of those guys, but maybe in another year.

I would like to see a veteran LHD come over on a cheap salary. Once JJ and Smith leave, it would be great if we could find a solid, stable LHD looking to join young team on the rise. Someone to provide leadership, depth and hard minutes as we jump back to 82-game schedule. Any ideas?

maybe, but we'll be paying whoever replaces him, or if Chytil moves up to 2C, then pay a replacement for him at 3C

To be quite honest, I kind of want to see what Tarmo can bring to the table. Veteran leadership helps, but I think they still have enough quality guys on this team to fit that bill.

You already got K'Andre, Fox, Lindgren and Trouba making up your Top 4...with Lundkvist looking to be an immediate plug in on the bottom line (at least for his Rookie year). If Tarmo looks even relatively competent (playing well in Hartford), a bottom line spot would be safe for him.

If not, maybe see how much Montour or Oleksiak would be. Maybe Forbort. Only need a bottom line guy.

I was thinking more about guy who has won a cup, older, is okay as #7 and mentor. Can eat some minutes as long-season require, without throwing rookies into fire.
