They wouldn't do that before they knew who was still left, maybe vancouver would move the pick if detroit took hughes like we all thought they would, but we'll never know

there is videos of these drafts from VAN's perspective. in 2017 they were drafting EP40 he was their guy. they almost made a trade to drop a few spots but heard the rangers were interested in Pettersson and declined. no way that trade ever happens.

Same in 2018, Hughes was their guy, and they didnt think he would be available at 5. no way they would have made that trade.

2019 trade is up in the air, i think VAN would have wanted to get another 1st rounder but who knows....
