Ryan Hartman. A 2nd and a prospect does it. MIN will retain.

Pass. He doesn't fit the top 6 definition.

I'll take Dreger with a giant grain of salt. The media will be pushing "gritty" on the Leafs forever.

Off the top of my head though, that may be available that fits that description is N. Foligno.

Very similar players. Hartman is actually scoring at a 40 pt pace and has a few 30 pt seasons. Difference here is Hartman is still an RFA, could be had for a cap hit less than a mil, and has cup pedigree. I think that fits better than Foligno.

If gritty top 6 forward means Granlund, sure. But TOR can’t afford anybody else. Garland is a pipe dream.

I don't mind Hartman, just I don't see him automatically bumping into the top 6 over Kerfoot, Simmonds, etc. And Leafs bottom 6 is in decent shape.

Foligno has been a top 6 player for majority of his career and is still playing 18min per night.

Also, despite what Dreger says, IMO Granlund is still a way more likely target then a "Hyman" type.

I get that, but the whole top 6 shtick is overrated. For what it’s worth, Hartman centered Panarin and Kane back in the day.

If I had to guess, it’ll be Granlund but I think the grit element might be deemed more important. Time will tell, and hopefully soon.

IMO they'll want a clear cut upgrade over Kerfoot, other than that I don't think they'll bother. With Thornton already playing in the top 6 (Hyman rotates on/off that line within each game), they'll want a pretty legit option to play 2nd line with JT and Nylander, so that line would be set in stone (barring injury).

If I had to bet it would be Granlund, but I wouldn't be surprised if they got someone that wasn't on anyone's radar.

Wayne Simmonds is gritty by everyone's standards. He's Wayne Simmonds.
