Leafs possible trade deadline additions 1

Created by: Leafsleaks123
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 10, 2021
Published: Mar. 10, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs add a versatile former 30 goal scorer who has been deep in the playoffs before. He's also cheap and has term. On the ducks side of things you get a solid bottom sixer in Engvall, a guy with top six upside in SDA, and a first as well as a fourth in this upcoming draft. That's about as good value as you'll get for a guy who has scored 15 and 18 goals in the past two seasons. Also, the ducks will have tons of cap space so retaining salary shouldn't be an issue

I think you are gonna have to do better than that to get Rakell for 1.5 million for a year and a half.

If he is actually available, I think Anaheim gets a dozen better offers.

If Rakell ends up being available at the deadline, teams will offer much better than this .

We have no interest in another bottom-6 left-handed forward (aside from Heinen, Jones and Milano, we have Tracey, Badini and McLaughlin in the pipeline) or B center prospect (aside from Lundestrom, Steel and Zegras, we have Groulx and Morand in the system), so these two are more of a burden for us than a boon. We can do better than a first and a fourth plus two headaches for Rakell and retention.

Possibly, but first of all, the leafs are paying rakell 2.3 million in this trade, and the retained salary shouldn't matter much for Anaheim especially with Backes' contract off the books after this season. Second of all, if you think of Rakell's possible suitors, the Oilers and Flames are at the top of that list, Anaheim would probably prefer to not send him to a Pacific division team who they'll have to play a bunch of times next season. Third of all, I think a great comparison for Rakell is Toffoli. Both former 30 goal scorers who had kind of struggled recently. Toffoli fetched a 2nd and a b prospect in Tyler Madden. The only difference in Rakell has an extra year on his contract. So the leafs match the b prospect in SDA, and then instead of a second give up a first as well as a fourth (maybe you could change it to a third or second if you think Rakell is that good)

I think you are mistaken. there will be several suitors for rakell if he is available. they will get better offers. and having an entire other year to a contract, not to mention a very cheap contract means a lot.

What do you think is a more realistic Rakell trade?

Nothing the Leafs would be willing to pay. I guarantee the second Leafs fans ( not necessarily you, just in general ) will lose their minds. Rakell is still a young productive forward on a cheap contract. He's on fire and it would take a lot to pry him from a team who needs him right now.
