Helping another teams cup odds and its bottom line for this season

Created by: sensonfire
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 10, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I have a feeling that the Hurricanes are not pleased with Cedric Paquette after trading Ryan Dzingel for him and Galchenyuk.

Paquette only plays 5 - 10 minutes a night and is nothing more than a 4th line scratch :(

With his cap hit and his salary at 1.65 million, he's nothing more than negative value for the Canes.

In this trade, I send Paquette back to the Sens for Nick Paul.

Nick Paul has a smaller cap hit than Paquette and is the more effective player by far.

His base salary for this year is $450,000 less than Paquette's, which is a godsend to the team's bottom line during these tough economic times.

And he has one more year left after this one, so if Carolina wants him to stick around after this season, he can.

Paul plays the same position as Paquette, he can move up and down the lineup and is effective on both the powerplay and penalty kill.

According to https://www.freeagentforecast.com/nhl/team-needs, Carolina is severely lacking at LW.

Trading Paquette for Paul is part of the solution for the Hurricanes and it's cost-effective.

The only downside for Carolina is the swapping of picks, but it shouldn't matter because they will be close in value.

The two most important priorities for Carolina during this trade deadline should be improving the odds of winning another Stanley Cup and saving money when nobody can pay the price of admission to see the Canes play.

Let me know how you would make this a better trade for both teams :)
Trades

Additional Details:
I'm not sure whether Carolina deserves the higher or the lower of Ottawa's 2 second-round picks. Maybe somebody could tell me in the comments :)

If you were capable of explaining a trade that made sense, you would have posted one.

But you haven't :/

And Paul can play up and down the lineup while Paquette can not, so ...

Why try to correct something as off the wall as your proposal? The Canes made it a point to go out at get Paquette. He’s giving them exactly what they want. This has been stated publicly.

This whole trade exercise, in your head, is to correct a problem that does not exist.

If the difference between Paquette & Paul is only 5-10 draft spots, the canes could have just swapped Paul & Paquette in the original trade and included a late round pick to make up for that. Your logic is flawed.

Your logic is flawed for grossly overvaluing Paquette when in all likelihood, he will be a healthy scratch for the entire playoffs.

Good luck to you then :/

If you had ideas that weren't off the wall, you would make an ACGM post about them.

But you haven't, so you probably know why :/

Show me where I overvalued him? Just saying the canes had specific intent to get Paquette, if they wanted Paul instead they would have made a trade for him.

Canes pass. You are solving a problem that doesn’t exist. Canes gained 1.6 million in cap space moving Dzingel and not keeping Chucky.

Look at all the other posts disagreeing with your proposal and questioning the need. There’s a hint for you.

I'm asking you about the fact that you haven't made any ACGM posts and you pivot to posts that disagree with mine.

Seems like I touched on a nerve.

If you can't take criticism, any criticism you give is less credible.

FYI

Seems like I’ve proven my point on the feasibility of your outlandish post. What does it matter I haven’t made any proposals?

It’s more fun to add a bit of realism to the majority of dreck that makes up this board.

You say that Paquette provides a feel for the game to the entire team when actually, the team finds it irrelevant and relegates him to 7 minutes a game.

That feel for the game will be irrelevant once the playoffs come around because Paquette will be a healthy scratch by then.

And he'll walk in free agency and you overlook it, so there's that.

You haven't made any proposals because they would be more outlandish than mine would.

This is not my first ACGM proposal and it won't be my last.

Making ACGM posts takes courage because you have to fend off criticisms from people that make none.

I wonder who those people might be :/

No, I said the fourth line is played when RBA "feels" he needs some physicality or a spark.

Fine. I'll take your word for it on the assumption I believe you.

At least you provide some constructive criticism unlike some in the comment thread smile

Imagine how stupid this would look if Carolina loses in the first round and that 1st round pick is in the low 20's high teens.
