Individual Buffalo trades

Created by: Wreckless
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 11, 2021
Published: Mar. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Berg brings in yet another cup winner in Eric Staal.
There are no lines #1, 2, and 3. Those are three first lines.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Staal, Eric ($1,625,000 retained)
2.
MTL
  1. Montour, Brandon ($1,925,000 retained)
BUF
  1. Kulak, Brett
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (WSH)
3.
MTL
  1. Hall, Taylor ($4,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Hall would be a pure rental.
BUF
  1. Tatar, Tomas
Additional Details:
Buffalo should extend him. A nice possession winger to have on a line with Eichel or Reinhart. Hard to make the case that he’ll command a UFA salary much greater than Tyler Toffoli got (if even that much).
If not though, he can be flipped for picks. Has to be included because the trade has to be dollar im dollar out. Plus he occupies the same role Hall would have on the team.
+ a pick
+ a prospect
4.
MTL
  1. Savard, David ($2,125,000 retained)
CBJ
  1. 2021 2nd round pick (TBL)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (CHI)

I would want to know what Tatar costs and if he will resign, otherwise its a waste. (didnt see the pick and prospect part, obviously depends what the pick and prospect is)

I like the montour trade. not sure about the staal trade, we already have an underachieving 2017 1st round pick, rather take a 2nd round pick.

i think the poehling for staal is interesting. buffalo isn't making the playoffs so i would rather they retain more. could be very useful for a deep run

That’s the Max they can retain. 50%. Unless they get another team involved to withhold up to 50% of the remaining 50% on their end as well.

Either an Hoffman or a Dadonov contract, hard to tell.

I would simply ask, why waste any return for hall on a guy we could simply sign as a UFA?
wojme liked this.

I don't understand why Buffalo would do this trade either

My guess is that someone will offer Buffalo more for Hall than we will. But we said the same thing about Vanek back in the day, so who knows.

The point is in the package, we would probably be looking for futures, not a player who will be UFA in a couple of months.

3 way trades happen. Tatar can be flipped for picks.

Perhaps, and what do you think he will return in the deal? Also why don't you just trade Tatar for futures and then offer a futures package for Hall?

Hard to tell, but their respective values are somewhat linked, same position, same role, both pending UFAs. The market will be whatever the most aggressive team is willing to pay. We do have picks and prospects that the Sabres would want though, so I do think we could be a fit. It’s up to the Sabres, though, to determine what their needs are.

This is the problem, I have no idea what they will do. There were rumors that they wanted to re-sign Hall and he seemed not to mind, there were rumors that he would probably be traded at the TDL or earlier, but still we would probably be looking for a futures package, or a player like Debrusk who has term and he struggling, although I don't know how to do it.

Maybe its just me, but huge red flags go up when i see that a winger is available that would be great with eichel. The problem historically has been that we have nobody that plays well away from eichel. This year is special of course, nothing is working no matter who, what, or where.
