Caps TDL

Created by: staytru20
Team: 2020-21 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 11, 2021
Published: Mar. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
WSH
  1. Bernier, Jonathan ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Caps get a solid veteran goaltender. This is probably the only real "hole" this roster has.
DET
  1. Copley, Pheonix
  2. Siegenthaler, Jonas
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
DET gets a capable backup goaltender and a young LHD with RFA control. Siegenthaler is an NHL level defenseman that's buried on the depth chart behind Dillon, Orlov, and Chara. The Caps have Martin Fehervary waiting in the wings, who will likely be an NHL regular next season.

Seems pretty fair to me, maybe a bit of an overpayment by the caps though. How good is Siegenthaler?

Washington can keep Copley considering he is currently buried and had to pass through waivers to get there. Other than that Detroit says yes.

Detroit accepts, That's a really good offer for Bernier at $1.5 million. Could take or leave Copley but it's a very good offer. And Bernier would thrive with the Caps.

Not good enough for me. I want a 2nd for Bernier or I'm keeping him and trying to resign him. Late 3rd's are basically worthless and Siegenthaler is nothing more than roster filler

I disagree about Siegenthaler - he's not roster filler. He's at worst a bottom pairing defenseman with top four potential. He's an impactful PK contributor, and will be cost controlled.

He has some potential but Wings have a lot of guys like him or better coming up soon. They need the roster space more tbh
