Lets shake things up a bit

Created by: Salzy
Team: 2020-21 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 12, 2021
Published: Mar. 12, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Henrique should not be moved in any sense unless we get an actual return, Eakins and Murray's horrible asset management hopefully are gone in the offseason and Henrique continues to be an impactful presence for us moving forward in our rebuild, and is a nice insurance policy should Getz not return.

Expansion draft protection moving forward: 7-3-1

Forwards: Terry, Lundestrom, Silf, Heinen, Steel, Jones, Henrique
D-men: Lindholm, Fowler, Mahura
Goalie: Gibson

Exemptions: Comtois, Zegras, Bokk

Notable exposures: Milano, Larsson, Shattenkirk

Reasonings:
Henrique over Milano - Pretty easy choice for me, Milano cant get on the ice this year and with the emergence of Comtois, Zegras, Jones there isnt really room for him here anyways, and Milano could entice Seattle to not take Shattenkirk

Mahura over Larsson/Shattenkirk - Losing Mahura would have the largest negative impact of the three imo, I believe he will continue to develop into a solid top 4 Dman and he should not be exposed at all. Larsson is a player to me that could use a change of scenery and Shattenkirk hasn't played well enough to be protected over Mahura imo, the focus of this expansion process should be on the future (Mahura) over the now (Shattenkirk)
Trades
1.
ANA
  1. Bokk, Dominik
  2. Honka, Anttoni [Reserve List]
  3. 2021 1st round pick (CAR)
CAR
  1. Rakell, Rickard ($1,894,722 retained)
Additional Details:
Price is rumoured to be "High", and with 50% retention possible we should get quite a haul for a red hot Rakell.

I am very high on Honka, I think he would be a great add to our prospect pool, Bokk is a solid prospect as well but with Guys like Gunler and Jarvis CAR can afford to use him to "Outbid" teams like TOR and BOS that could also be in the Rakell market

I think Carolina is the best fit for Rakell personally
2.
ANA
  1. 2021 2nd round pick (PHI)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (PHI)
PHI
  1. Manson, Josh
Additional Details:
One of Manson/Shattenkirk should be traded imo.

I chose Manson because I think it would be poor practice to trade someone just months after signing a 3 year deal

Manson's value has lowered since the offseason, he cant seem to stay healthy this year, but I believe he still gets a second + from a team in need of a shutdown second pair guy.
3.
ANA
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (ARI)
ARI
  1. Deslauriers, Nicolas

I'm a huge fan of Honka, but that retained salary on Rakell is pretty tempting.

The Athletic says Anaheim is looking for a hockey deal for Rakell. What does that look like?

    Foegele and Honka?

Why wouldn't you protect Heinen over Henrique. He's a versatile forward who can slot pretty much everywhere. Henrique is probably not selected even if left exposed.

I've seen so many rumoured things they want i dont know what to believe, the only constant is a "High Price"

I protected both, I protected henrique because there wasnt really anyone else to protect

My bad I confused "Post expansion draft trade candidates" with players left unprotected.

I’d take that if i’m Canes.

I have sneaking suspicion Rakell ends up in Boston for Debrusk in some sort of deal.

Honestly, I'd have no problem leaving Henrique exposed. IMO, Seattle probably takes him. He's still a productive player, but shedding the cap hit allows us to use that space elsewhere. If they don't take him, it's really no sweat either, because the contract isn't ridiculously prohibitive.

Regarding Manson, I just don't see the value in moving him. If he's healthy next year, he'll get a 2nd and 3rd if he's sold at or near the deadline anyway. The gamble in selling him now is that it's a hole you need to fill for next year. I know that sort of messes up the protection scheme, and likely leaves Mahura exposed, which could also backfire in a Theodore-esque manner. I don't friggin' know.

With Rakell, I really think that Bokk wouldn't be the guy to target. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see much there. I like the idea of the 1st and Honka, and if Bokk is the best you can do, sure, but I'd rather someone with a little more offensive upside.

I hope that doesn't happen. Debrusk isn't what the Ducks need, though GMBM has been known to pull some boneheaded moves in recent years.

Losing Rico for nothing and potentially losing Getz would be horrible for us though, I protect henrique 100% of the time if theres even a 1% chance Getz doesnt come back, we need someone to fill that role.

My whole thing was trying to get value out of both Manson and Shattenkirk, Now I could have gone about it the wrong way here but this was my first attempt of what will be many ahah, even if we have both Manson and Shattenkirk on the roster come expansion draft time, I still protect Mahura, we need to prioritize the future over the now.

Bokk was more or less a throw-in, any prospect of similiar value would suffice in his place to me

Yeah, I feel like we're basically on the same page. My assumption was Getz for 2 @ $4.5-5ish...seems like he's comfortable, and he's obviously who I'd want to keep.
