Dumba to Philly

Created by: robrob10
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 11, 2021
Published: Mar. 12, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
By trading Dumba now, it sets up the Wild really well for Cap space, expansion draft, and adding future prospects and draft capital. In this scenerio, you go 7-3-1 and leave Rask, Sturm, Soucy, and Talbot available for the expansion draft. This also gives you around 30M of cap space (after the loss of 1 player in the expansion draft) to sign Fiala, Kaprizov, ErikssonEk, and other roster needs or UFA's. Plus you will have 2 1st's in the next 2 drafts, and a young C prospect in Frost. Probably to much for Philly to give up for Dumba, but you never know.
Trades
MIN
  1. Frost, Morgan
  2. 2022 1st round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Philly will be sending 1 player as a Cap dump. Probably someone on an expiring contract.
PHI
  1. Dumba, Matt
Additional Details:
Wild accept player to even the Cap for both teams.

im not sure why philly does this. they have a wealth of extremely good young d-men. in fact Dumba would be the oldest after Ghost. idk. maybe philly fans think diff.

Not a bad deal for Philly, they'd have to include Gustaffson, (UFA to be at 3mil), but It'd be tempting for them.

Frost and the presumable 18-24th overall pick for Dumba, is pretty good package for both, but thinking that Philly is looking for better defensive options (they have plenty of puck rushers), but guys like Savard (who as a UFA doesn;t disturb their expansion plans), ekholm (who at 3.75mil is cheaper)....

But Fkletcher likes Dumba and you;'d have to think PHI needs a top 2 pairing RD and it makes sense

Fletcher drafted Dumba and he's largely become the player they thought he'd be. That's really the main reason I'd think they may be interested. Philly seems pretty set at center, they seem like a good match for being able to offer something Minnesota would want without downgrading their current roster. The biggest issue would be cap, since Philly will need to send back some salary as part of the deal.

The thing we aren’t seeing is whether the Flyers think York or Zamula can step into the top 4 if you lose Sanheim to expansion or are they are willing to put up the extra assets to protect him. This makes more sense to do after expansion. The Flyers are gonna be around for a few years and it doesn’t make sense to force something at the beginning of that window.

Pay ARI a conditional 3rd and get Goligoski and see what happens.

What would need to be done to make a Dumba/Patrick trade make sense?

I think Patrick would need to both be better than he is, and not have the health issues he does. Frost is a much more appealing target.
