I really dont think Hughes will have that high of an AAV with only 3 years of term. If you look at McAvoy and Sergachev and other comparisons I think he gets max 6.5 on a 3 year. I feel like you could get an 8Yr contract for 8 - 9 M

Ultimately, we are all guessing because the only comparables havent signed a new deal yet either (Dahlin, Heiskenan, and Makar). But looking at the closest thing (Chabot), it was 8x8. So that would be an absolute baseline on an 8 year term for Hughes. I would be absolutely stoked if Hughes is resigned on a 3-yr bridge for <7m

woah woah woah, this is not a cap dump haha. Schmidt is a legit top 4 Dman in todays NHL; mobile, moves the puck well and quickly. He is basically the perfect dman for the Canucks but it is clear that we are further behind than we thought and he should be on the blueline for team further along, ie. NJD. There are plenty of teams interested in Schmidt though, so if not NJD, then somewhere.

I think he meant we have other things to throw some picks at. You are correct NS does help here for Jersey and for me worth it

Vancouver acquired Schmidt with a 3rd pick. He has played worse over last year. Is about to hit the wrong side of 30. And has 5 years on a pretty large contract. We are a rebuilding club.

“Cap dump” is not accurate and I take that back.

But he is not the player NJD should be spending cap space and picks on, given their stage of development.
