But every team thinks Seattle is going to take their 5m "poor" cap player. It's Oshie's term that would likely have Seattle say no.

i think its situational and in this case Oshie is on pace for 60points in an 82 games season and is from Seattle. now its not the same as a person assuming that theyll want to take Eriksson or some 6 million dollar guy who isnt producing. Howmany 60 point players do you think will be available for this team to draft?

I think it's ridiculous when I see every "homer" think their "Ericsson" is going to be taken. The big factor with these big contract, especially ones with term, is whether Seattle would be better off signing a UFA for that money, or taking a lesser player with the sweeteners. IMO, Seattle isn't going to worry about futures, but try to put the most competitive they can on the ice. And that might include Oshie....but it's the term that is the factor.

is Oshie really the Capitals version of Ericsson? hes been a 50-60 point winger and hes still on pace to hit his career average this year . i understand term isnt ideal but he's showing 0 signs of regression. if their goal is to compete why not select a 60 point winger? other side of the coin is the can select Jensen?

Oh not Oshie is miles better than Ericsson. I just wonder about the term. I'm sure Seattle will take a lot of lower priced guys, and some mid priced guys....then have cap for UFAs

Is it crazy to say that I don't want Seattle to take Oshie? I know the term on his contract sucks, but he's just so crucial to our team that I don't think we can adequately replace him in the Ovechkin era. If 2021-22 is one of our last shots at it before a big rebuild, I say hold onto him and go for it one more time. Just my (most likely) unpopular opinion

I honestly would hate to lose him also but if Ovi gets a massive contract you might need to move a big contract

Sure, sure. Build it from the other side, though, and you get 5M in cap space. Hall and Dubnyk, anyone?
