QUICK TURNAROUND

Created by: Mintyfresh
Team: 2020-21 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 13, 2021
Published: Mar. 13, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
3 big trades to try and save the season last minute.

Kane adds even more scoring and someone willing to protect himself and teammates when the time calls for it. Dubnyk adds a goalie option to save the season if Hart continues to struggle and Elliott, although has had a good season, is now also starting to show some inconsistencies. Whoever is the hot hand they ride.

Ekholm/Arvidsson is based on a rumor. Although the original rumor had Ghost in it, I wonder if they want a younger option like Myers more. Who knows I'm willing to do Ghost too. I don't understand the Arvidsson part of the deal of the rumor so part of me thinks what if he's part of a 3 team trade.

They get way more future value while they're building for the future and the present value isn't even that bad, it'd be very favourable in Poile's eyes

Trading UFAs for RFAs ftw

Philly has an underrated forward core. Plus I'd rather have Voracek + Arvidsson than Kane

Are there more overreactions to minor trends this year with everything being weird or is it always like this? Hart will rebound. They have a quality team.

If the sharks are trading kane they are going into a rebuild/retool on the fly they are going to want younger players/prospects/picks and specifically not another huge contract in voracek. I dont see how this trade makes any sense at all

Have you watched the flyers at all this year. They in no way should even be in contention for the playoffs. They are real bad. All season long too, now they are just losing games for others to take notice. Hart isn't even the main issue. He's young and will rebound, but this team has some major issues and its impossible to place where they come from being that they are only missing Niskanen from last year's team. Maybe its the players, maybe the coach, but its definitely more than just getting used to a weird season.

They've given up 12 goals within 2 minutes of scoring a goal themselves. They only show life if they are down by 3/4 goals. Its just not coming together. I don't presume to think these trades all make sense, but the 'overreaction" is warranted. Its just now showing up in the standings, because Hart and now Elliott aren't standing on their head.

How dare you forget Pitlick. Half serious. He was a good contributor in the limited grinder role, and this team is lacking there. Also bear in mind, we are dealing with multiple players working through basically rehab stints but up with the big club anyway in Patrick and Lindblom, and both have not been anywhere close to what they were when last healthy. And of course, Hart is having a bad time out there, and Elliott may be showing signs of wear and tear from too high a workload for him.

Besides that probably temporary set of issues, you're right the defense is missing quality on that right side. Niskanen brought a reliable outlet pass last season that is sorely missed, excepting the playoffs where he was quite bad. If we could do one better, it'd be to add an RD that has that quality as well as the ability to win the physical battles near the goal and in the corners. Finding and affording that is far easier said than done, however. Moreover, if we acquire such a player, he has to be protected from the expansion draft. The Flyers are in a tough spot from a front office perspective. They may acquire an expiring vet D that doesn't really fit the bill just for optics, and leave any more serious moves for the off-season, as frustrating as that is for us fans.
