Habs reportedly have looked at Forsberg

Created by: SevenLeg
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 14, 2021
Published: Mar. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
NSH
  1. Byron, Paul
  2. Guhle, Kaiden
  3. Tatar, Tomas
  4. 2021 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
I'm really not sure about Forsberg's value and availability , but what I know is that Tatar's production is pretty much on par with Forsberg over the last three years (0.78ppg vs 0.81). Nashville can do whatever they want with him, including selling him for a late 1st. Byron is there to balance the cap. Guhle is a solid prospect who can turn out to be a solid 2nd pairing dman and the 1st is probably 15-20 in a weak draft.

Not knocking your deal but Poile has pretty much said he’s not trading Forsberg unless there is a deal he can’t pass up. It would have to be a slam dunk win for him in the long run. This deal isn’t that.

It's totally understandable if he doesn't trade him. It's just a source that I trust on Twitter that said Bergevin has called on Forsberg.

As for the trade, I'd say that more or less 3 1st round picks is pretty good futures, especially for a player one year removed from UFA who can't come with extension.

Why would the Habs go after him though? They already have enough top 6 wingers. If they’re going to go after a winger it would be better to target a star. Not saying forsberg isn’t amazing, just the habs need a star winger that they don’t have. Think like a Johnny Gaudreau (though he’s probably not that much better than forsberg). I think you get my point though.

I like Forsberg, but I also like Guhle and think he is going to be a stud for ten years in the NHL. I would not trade him.

I think a cheaper and easier option would be Hall

Yeah Poile said he’s fielded calls on Forsberg for sure. And again I don’t think it’s a bad trade (honestly I would have to look into the prospects as I admittedly don’t know much about other teams prospect pools if they aren’t the huge names) but I just don’t think it hits the “absolute slam dunk” poile is looking for. He likely tries to resign him next year and if he can’t get a deal, he flips him at next years deadline.

Which sucks because then the Preds get less assets for a true rental.

I see what you mean, but Forsberg immediately becomes the best forward on the team regardless of how many top 6 forwards there are. It's not nothing.

I wouldn't trade him either, unless it's a big deal like the one above. He's probably what Nashville would seek in return for Forsberg.

Forsberg is for sure the better player but I see a bigger need for Ekholm pour vrai. I can't watch the Kulak-Mete pairing anymore.

I always defend Kulak because he is good but with Petry only
Otherwise he’s a #7
Romanov Petry Edmundson are good, we need 1 or 2 other dman to wake up

I don't think he's bad either, and I think he's a #5, but he just doesn't mesh with Mete for some reason.

Caufield is the last player Bergevin would trade in the whole organization imo. As for KK, it'd also be a no deal because of the whole it creates at center with Danault potentially leaving.

i agree, but if im the preds, im trading a guy whose 26 and still has a good 5-7 years left. caufield would be the type of return id be looking for if im selling and heading towards a quick rebuild/

It'll need to be a much better offer than that for them to part with him.

Much rather have Forsberg than Gaudreau.

Hall traded to a division rival won't happen, plus playing against the pieces you gave up to get him!

Hall isn't technically a division rival so Sabres would be fine trading him to Montreal and the cost of Hall would be a 1st and Byron

Ok so you got me technically for this season, but going forward he would be for years to come IF resigned. Agreed value!

I don't think Buffalo would mind. They are going for a full scale rebuild
