Max value of Eichel

Created by: EccE
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 15, 2021
Published: Mar. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is the max value I would give for Eichel. I see many BUF fans demanding three 1st rounders, two top prospects and a GM:s literal soul. Be realistic. You are not giving away the reincarnation of Buddha.

Eichel is a top line center. But he is not worth the entire future of a franchise.

BTW I don't think M. Johansson and Rask have any actual value, they're just there to make the cap work.

You’re being an extremist lol

Two packages for the wild that can possibly get Eichel.
Rossi , Addison, beckman, and a 1st

JEE, fiala, beckman , and a 1st.

Kings :

Turcotte, viillardi , madden , and a 1st

NYR

Kakko, chytil , Schneider , and a 1st.

Clearly we have different definitions for top assets because I mean it literally; the top assets the team has, not their 2nd and 4th most valueable. For LA that means Byfield. For NYR, that means Laf. Most of the posts involving Eichel on here lately has Buffalo and non-Buffalo fans insisting Minnesota would need to give up multiples of Kaprizov, Rossi, Addison, and multiple 1st round picks because LA and NYR can offer Laf + Kakko or Byfield + Turcotte like those are actually things any of those 3 teams would do.

I, personally wouldn't want Jones. This trade would be a chance for the Sabres to establish their future and I think their future in the net is Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. If they have no faith in UPL, they surely do not have faith in Jones. TBH Jones might not even be the best goalie prospect in the Wild system.

When I'm looking at Buffalo's defensive prospect pool, I can't find too much to cheer for. Especially since their current defense is horrible as well. Now, Wild has one of the best defensive cores in the league and they still have prospects on the way. If I'm Buffalo, I'd like to see Jones swapped to, say, Dumba since then they wouldn't have to take so much of dead cap and you could drop M. Johansson from this trade.

The alternative is to take M. Johansson and get a nice defensive prospect for their neverending rebuild. I'm thinking Marshall Warren and/or Brennan Menell.

Ok and I didn’t include byfield , kaprizov , and laff in any of the trade proposals - or multiple 1sts - you’re overrating a prospect like Addison, who is a great prospect, but he’s not a blue chip asset.

All of the packages I listed are reasonable and Buffalo still loses all of those trades.

The perceived value on orielly wasn’t that he was a superstar center. He was seen as a high end 2C who needed a change of scenery.

I agree with pretty much everything youve said, please post more. Also, the ror trade was considered an absolute disaster the minute they announced it. If st louis had quietly bowed out in the second round instead of winning the cup, it still would have been one of the worst trades in the last 20 years. We took back a recent late first in tage thompson- hes awful, the first became pick 31 (fun side note here, the pick was actually top 10 protected, which we didnt find out until st louis sputtered out of the gate), the two roster players were straight cap dumps that didnt belong on nhl ice, and also a second round pick. Lets just agree that the sabres new gm wont be following any ror trade template when determining what an approriate eichel return should look like.

Eichel is a top 10 center with 5 years left on his contract. It would probably cost Rossi , Addison , beckman, and a 1st.

His values has already been pretty much determined (plus now he is hurt) his value looking at comp trades that actually happened have him at 2 NHL mid 6 players, a 1st rd, a 2nd rd, and 2 highish prospects.
