Would love to see it but outside of Hughes and Hischier I can't see what NYI would want that could help them contend now/in the future

Unfortunately Islanders fans say he's basically untouchable .

We have Holtz and Mercer coming soon

The isles have needed a rw with a heavy shot for years lol - PP and shooting talent was one of the reasons we lost to Tampa last year. Wahlstrom checks too many boxes for the isles to trade him.

Jack Hughes, Yegor Sharangovich, Ty Smith, your next eight 1st round picks, your second-born child, and a 4th round pick for good measure.

Also holtz can possibly end up being better than wahlstrom, what is the rush? The devils aren’t making the playoffs this season, which isn’t a bad thing.

Wahlstrom is looking great for the Isles. He reminds me of Palmieri, just worse defensively and has a better shot.

I wouldn't consider Mercer a high end shooter / goal scorer, especially not at the NHL level. Holtz is only one guy, NJ is going to need more than one shooter

I think he will be much better but literally everyone on NJ's roster right now is a soft playmaker, they will still be in need of shooters after Holtz arrives.

Palmieri has been great defensively in the past, but wahlstroms defensive metrics are better than palmieri this season

Elliotte Friedman said Timo Meier could be available. He could be a goal scoring winger next to Nico. I really want Caufield from Montreal but he is likely unavailable and it would cost Holtz or Mercer+

Really? I didn't notice Wahlstrom defensively. Palmieri is more defensive this year, playing next to Hughes for most of the season.

I'm big on Meier, always thought he would be a great fit here. Brings a unique blend of size/skill/scoring that we could really use. He is having a solid season though so I wonder about the asking price.

And Ruff decides to play the 3 soft playmakers together (Hughes, Bratt, Johnson) SMH.

Mercer, Butcher, Merkley, 2nd? SJ might be interested in Zacha but I would like to keep Zacha

I would hate to lose Mercer but that sounds about right. make the 2nd a 3rd or 4th though

Palmieri was one of the most underrated wingers in the league the last 3-4 years. He had a borderline elite defensive impact, but for some reason he’s below average defensively this year.

I wouldn’t call wahlstrom a great defensive forward , but he’s slightly above average. If he wasn’t good defensively he wouldn’t be in the lineup.

Mercer may end up better NHL overall than Holtz.
I'd say they are equal in value at this point.

Fine with that.
Its far easier to make a skilled roster hard, then a hard roster skilled

If we have to give up Mercer, I'd prefer it be for top d-man.
We need 1-2 top-4 d-men more than anything else.

There aren't many top 4 dman available. I would try looking for one through the draft

Agree.
Edvinsson is best bet for true #1.
Then probably Luke Hughes.
Owen Power is likely 2nd pair. Low floor though.
Clarke is riskier, hit or miss type. He is unorthodox and aggressive, so I kind of like it. But not as #1.
Carson Lambos is interesting too...some love him.
I haven't ever seen Cuelemans or Morrow play and not a whole lot written about them, but they are on my list.

So Edvinsson or Hughes for me at this point.

Would they all go top 5 or top 10?
