It might be slanted a little towards Buff but I think to get them to eat the salary I needed to include some pretty decent prospects.

Isles have no desire for staal and if we are giving up those kind of assets for the other two guys they better be taking komorov back

Staal gives us a backup center who can play wing. He is very good on faceoffs and also allows us to slide Pageau around the lineup. He makes this team infinitely more flexible.

Staal would be great next to Pageau and Wahlstrom. Would make us more deep in case someone else gets hurt.

If I'm buffalo, I take that deal and run. The only thing you are realistically giving up is Montour or potentially better returns as teams might be wanting to gamble on Hall or Stall for a cup. Next season you'll have a lot to work with in terms of cap and can be aggressive in FA. For the Islanders, these aren't players I'd really want. Yes they have "starpower" and maybe they are underperforming due to a lack of talent around them, but a first and Wilde is what you'd be eating long-term for a montour and a chance at a cup.

Looks like good value to me, considering the retained salary. I would like if Komarov was somehow added to this trade, possibly by strapping on another second.

Hall - Barzal - Eberle was a possibility for Edmonton and then Chiarelli traded the pick for Griffin Reinhart LOL

If we are taking staal they should at least take komorov then otherwise this is too much to give up for a few rentals especially since none of them are really producing

Islanders are a team that needs to win now. Their core is old and only has a couple years left before they start regressing. If this is what it costs for a cup this year, then sure.

Isles window is closing and these guys fill their needs. You would be betting Hall turns it around next to Barzy and with Trotz in his ear. Staal and Montour are for depth. Isles have a ton of solid D prospects so wilde isn’t a big deal. Isles also have an extra 2nd round pick to play with. Also the first is a late pick in a bad draft.

I completely agree and understand you are in win mode now. I just don't know if these are the players that you should be targeting

Serious question then, who should we be targeting in your opinion?

Wilde is a RD and was a 2019 2nd round pick. He has lots of upside. Big kid, good skating, hard shot. He is raw though and needs time to develop.

Koivula is a natural center. He got a look in the nhl last season and although was defensively responsible, was not ready for the pro league. He should be ready for a full time role by next season. He projects as a 2 way 3rd line center.

In my mind you have two viable options. 1.) look at teams that are selling and target them or 2.) look at teams that where a trade with them would compliment you both. If you are loaded up on mid 6 left wings and another team has the same but for right wings then do it. 3.) as a stretch you could look to take advantage of a team that was going to lose someone in the expansion draft

For group 1.) I'm looking at the following
Anaheim: Rickard Rakell
Detroit: Bobby Ryan
Devils: Kyle Palmieri
Nashville: Mikael Granlund
San Jose: Evander Kane**
Arizona: Difficult but maybe Kessel
Vancouver: J.T. Miller (more than anything Vancouver is going to have cap issues)

Rakell is a fine target.
Ryan isn’t a top 6.
Palmeri is ok but I would rather Hall.
Granlund is not a top 6.
Kane is not worth his contract. Pass
Kessel is washed and expensive. Pass
J.T. Miller is interesting.
