Philly rejects, and hangs up the phone. Zero interest in either Virtanen or Gaudette. Not keen on selling low on Patrick. Guy missed a year to migraines and is basically doing his rehab stint now but with the big club. Whether he pans out isn't clear, I grant you, but it's more worthwhile to keep him than to trade him for someone else's spare parts.

Don’t agree with either trade, but it would be amazing if Ted Nolan came back to coach the Sabres!

If he brought Dominik Hasek, the main reason the Sabres were so good back then, that would be fine.

Just some knowledge for you:

Buffalo made the playoffs eight years in a row from 1987-88 to 1994-95 but were bounced in the first round in all but one of those seasons. Another first-round exit after the lockout-shortened 1994-95 campaign brought about a full-scale rebuild. The roster itself also saw sweeping changes: gone were big names like Alexander Mogilny, Dale Hawerchuk, and Grant Fuhr, to be replaced by less-renowned glue guys like Michael Peca, Randy Burridge, and Mike Wilson. Buffalo also traded away veterans Doug Bodger, Yuri Khmylev, and Dave Hannan in-season.

While Hasek once again led the league in save percentage (.920%), Hasek also had the most losses in the NHL (30) and saw his goals against average go up from 2.11 to 2.83. Despite the lack of team success, the ‘95-96 Sabres quickly endeared themselves to Buffalo fans. Understanding that the team lacked high-end talent, those who attended Sabres games saw how hard the team worked and how much passion they brought to the ice under Nolan’s leadership.

With a team that lacked offensive firepower — the Sabres were shut out a league-high 10 times — and a dominant goaltender, Nolan recognized that embracing a defensive mentality was the best way to win games. While he might not have had a lot of legitimate offensive threats — Buffalo’s top scorer in ‘96-97 was Plante with 53 points — he had a bevy of forwards that were strong in their own end.

Yes Hasek was good/no amazing the defensive systems that Nolan created helped. He is a very good coach!

Fired from Sabres in 1997. Hired by Islanders in 2006. Most 'very good' coaches go a decade without a job???

i have been a season ticket holder for years.
Apparently the players loved Ted.
I do not know why.
Did he socialize with them after the games?
Did he allow the players freedom to do their own thing on the ice?
His second year, the team hired Paul Theriault as an assistant coach. There was an obvious change in the offensive tendencies, the Sabres made the playoffs and Nolan won the jack Adams award.
There was a rift between Ted and John Muckler and Ted won, John (one of the smartest Hockey men of his time) was fired.
Nolan did not go to the airport to meet Darcy Regier but was still offered a one year contract which Ted refused.
Nolan was offered NHL coaching jobs in 1997 by the Tampa Bay Lightning (head coach) and in 1998 by the New York Islanders (assistant coach). Nolan declined both offers.
In 2006–07, he led the islanders to a 92-point season. The following year the Islanders record fell to 79 points.
On July 14, 2008, Newsday reported that Ted Nolan was dismissed as Islanders coach by Islanders GM Garth Snow.
So if he was black balled, he was offered 3 jobs and refused all of them.

Nolan was brought back to coach the Sabres to get the fans excited and assure a poor season to get the best chance at the first overall draft pick.

He and Ruff won Jack Adams awards because they had a great GK.

Well that is my three cents.
