Description

For this trade I don't know what the value for someone like Hall will be. I didn't put a first in it because I don't think teams give up first Rd picks for rentals, coupled with the fact Hall could theoretically lower Buffalo's leverage with his NMC. However, I could also see how the value Buffalo could get back is higher because of the combination of how much money they will have to keep and the bidding war they could create with the asset.

The Blackhawks trade is outlined in the additional details- this is based on reports that Chicago would be open to facilitating trades by acting as a middle team to help with salary. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/31-thoughts-no-easy-answers-addressing-sabres-messy-situation/

Like I state, the pick could be higher. Also thoughts on the CBJ trade? Lastly the cap hit for the leafs is over obviously, but that is accounting for the 2million to the Blackhawks and the leafs accrued cap space. I am not entirely sure if that accrued space is more than 70k.

Buffalo will want a 1st if you want us to retain 50%

Chicago is interested in that deal I think, but you could probably keep the prospect and bump the pick up. That would be preferred.

I get that, I just don't know if any teams gives a 1st for a rental. And I think it puts Buffalo in a corner if they holdout for that. I don't think any team could take Hall without 50% salary retention (NYI might be the only one with their recent injury). Maybe a team gets another team involved and they have both do 25%. But 4million for a contender would probably be tough.

Any other season and it's probably, yes teams would give up a 1st for a rental if they're good enough - that used to be the going price for the best one (Chicago gave up a 1st + prospect for Ladd, for example).

This season is just weird though. On the one hand, the 2021 draft isn't as good as the previous ones or 2022 draft, so if there was ever a time to give up a 1st, this draft is it. On the other hand, teams don't want to waste futures on this weird shortened season necessarily.
