you dont think you can get anyone better than Kerfoot for Bouchard?

if im the oilers, i try to trade Barrie for a good package this TDL and then give his spot to Bouchard.

If you deal Bouchard do it for a good young cost controlled winger. Though I don’t see why you’d trade him, took this long to build a somewhat deep d

I would agree with you if EDM were outside of the playoff picture, but they're contenders now. Barrie will re-sign in EDM unless someone offers over-the-moon money this summer anyway. He's 1st in the entire NHL in points by D. He's having a career season. No chance EDM moves him at the TDL. He's a crucial part of their success and they need him for the playoffs.

Puckmoving defensemen earn a lot of 2nd assists, that's a feature, not a bug. Let's remove 2nd assists and see where some of the league's best D shake out:

    Player: G-1A-1P
    Hedman: 5-15-20
    Petry: 11-6-17
    Nurse: 9-5-14
    Hughes: 2-12-14
    Carlson: 6-7-13
    Barrie: 4-9-13
    Hamilton: 3-9-12
    Rielly: 3-8-11
    Theodore: 5-5-10
    Sergachev: 2-8-10
    McAvoy: 3-5-8
    Josi: 2-5-7
    Muzzin: 2-3-5

    Yup, he "sucks".

I think that’s well over blown.... he’s a high event player that provides a lot more offensive plays than defensive mistakes. I expected a defensive nightmare when signed him but been pleasantly surprised with his play in his own end not nearly as bad as expected.

Of course they are inflated - McDavid & Draisaitl are the #1 and #2 offensive players in the world, they inflate everyone's stats. When skilled players play together, good things happen. Why do you think Barrie is leading all defensemen in the league in scoring?

Well he definitely didn't look good in TO when he was forced to play a way that didn't suit him by Babcock. This year Tipp is giving him as many offensive opportunities as possible, and he's excelling with them. It's what he's good at, and he's delivering. He's mediocre in his own zone, but the coach knows that, and doesn't pretend he's some all around 2 way dman just because he gets points.

He benefits greatly from playing with McD and Drai. But those guys have never had as much time and space in the offensive zone as they have this year, and I think a lot of that stems from Barrie being so creative and capable walking the blueline. That skillset is something that, simply, no other Oiler Dman can do at the moment.

Essentially, your experience watching him in TO doesn't really say much about his near PPG pace in EDM. Something tells me you may have been singing a different tune if he had turned in that kind of offensive result in TO, even with his treading water often in his own zone.

He's certainly not a defensive defenseman, that's for sure. But regardless of your style, the point is to outscore your mistakes, and Barrie is certainly doing that this year and does most years. He has also outscored his teammates 7 of the last 8 years (the sole exception being last year in Toronto). He's certainly not a liability, but he's no Scott Stevens.

Maybe after the year in Toronto he made an extra point towards his defensive game. I really don’t see a problem with that part of his game. If he’s always in the right position defensively then he’s not going to have the ability to provide the offensive side of his game that makes him valuable. There’s a trade off to be had and thus far I think he’s been on the positive side far more often then not really impressed with him this year exceeding my expectations.

Drai is certainly not the #2 offensive player in the world. Even his stats are inflated. I think they played him with McDavid in that series against the sens and he had like 9 points in 4 games. Both drai and Barrie rack up so many secondary assists on the PP. even last year 40% of drais points came on the PP. I’d much rather have a Peterson or point over drai

I don't really care what you'd rather, as I have no confidence in your ability to judge a player.

Between last year and this year, Draisaitl is 1st in total points and 3rd in goals. He and McDavid are the #1 and #2 offensive players in the league and nobody else is even close: NHL

Going back to the last 2.5 seasons, Draisaitl is 2nd in points and 2nd in goals: NHL

Past 3.5 seasons tell basically the same story: NHL

You can spew whatever vitriol you like, but the fact remains that Draisaitl is one of the top-2 offensive players in the world.

Why don’t u tell me how many PP points he has, and how many of those were secondary assists. Drai gets shut down vs real teams this year. What happened vs Toronto this year? If you’re using only points to judge a player u rlly don’t know hockey. I bet you think drai is better then Matthews and Mack
