$4M per is more than enough for a 3rd C checker

I think the final number will be somewhere between 4mm and 4.25mm per season, and the number will look random to make it clear that both sides really fought hard for their side.

A useful player at that cap hit. Especially if we push towards a long playoff run. We’re better off with him.

He’ll undoubtedly have an option to sign a two year bridge somewhere (conservatively) between $1.85mm-$2.85mm per season. I don’t imagine the number being much higher or lower than that range. I think there’s a strong argument to make for accepting a > $22mm contract, security, and the ability to just focus on hockey and reaching his potential to get paid as a 27yo UFA.

Also, specifically because of the new flat cap reality, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 6 year deal was even lower than that figure. At that point though, my guess is it’s the term that would go down first.

I agree with the logic and i think the cap hit is spot on for what his next deal will be but i suspect a bridge i think given the strides he has taken will lead to a bridge 2-3 years 2-3mil per and then he will sign his 6 year deal following that. I think it makes sense on both sides because unless he makes a massive leap forward in two years that AAV will still be very manageable, i suspect in the 5-6 mil range which means you have him in his prime on a team friendly deal versus needed to had him a larger deal at 27.

If Toffoli is getting $4,250,000, Danault should get less than him.

I agree with you. But then again, I’m not sure Bergevin would be able to say no to that offer if it was presented by the Danault camp. If Danault wants more term though, then 100% I would not go as high as a $4.25mm AAV. Danault will actually be older than Toffoli was when he signed.

also, it's easier to find a #3C than a 25-30 goal scorer ... Habs should offer Danault no more than $4M per for 3 or 4 years max, if he doesn't like it, he can walk.
