Created by: Rideordie
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 17, 2021
Published: Mar. 18, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Big trade to get Ek that mtl gives a lot but nash needs to retain 750k salary.
Second trade can be to any team, just to free up the 250k from weal that still appears on the salary cap so that mtl has room to call 1 guy up is needed. Mtl uses a draft pick, could be higher then 5th round, so that an other teams accepts a 250k cap hit.

That doesn't get Ekholm though -- Armia (UFA) and Mete (have enough LHD coming up the pipeline that are NHL ready next season) don't really fit with NSH and Norlinder isn't enough to get it done.

the cost of Ekholm is a first and 2 prospects, not a 1st, a prospect, a pending UFA and a depth dman.. Armia and Mete do not add value to the Preds.

plus once you add in salary retention the cost goes up from the 1st and 2 prospects.

Chicago will take on a bad contract, but give us something better than that.

Well for 250k cap hit, I don't think you get all that much more. I meen you can switch to a 4th round pick, but in the end its pretty much a free draft pick for chicago

Well armia and Mete have to go for the salary cap situation and they do have a plus value to the trade. But adding an other prospect is possible also but not a high end one. Maybe Ikonen who was a 2nd round pick but has been injured alot. Still has potential

Well Armia has a good offensive upside, just not consistent. If he plays well for nash, he could stay there and be a good top 9 guy for them. But regarding adding more value to the trade, I don't know what the value is of Ikonen, but he was a 2nd round draft pick that has potential but has been injured a alot over the years.

NSH won't be trading for 27 year old UFA's if they are rebuilding -- I think they'd be looking at Ylonen, Tuch, Harris, Brook, etc. They'd want higher quality prospects back. Neither Norlinder or Ikonen are really gonna move the needle
