Trades
1.
COL
  1. Chatfield, Jalen
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Trade deadline 2021 deal:

Avs get: Tanner Pearson, Jalen Chatfield, (already re-signed for 2 years at 900k each), and a third round pick.
Van gets: Erik Johnson, Logan O'Connor.

With a blue line consisting of players like Cale Makar, Samuel Girard, Devon Toews, and Ryan Graves, I just don't see how the Avalanche can afford to protect Johnson, who has a NMC. So they trade him, along with O'connor.
2.
VAN
  1. Orlov, Dmitry
Additional Details:
I want Orlov for several reasons. One, he is an elite defensive defender, something we really need. Two, he's russian, which might motivate Podkolzin and perhaps Tryamkin to come to Vancouver. His contract isn't exactly ideal, and the Caps need to sign Ovi next year, so they send him, and get Gaudette, who is young and will play with the caps long term. Joulevi a young defenseman who will grow on the Cap's deep Blueline while barely taking any Cap Space. A 6th round pick seals the deal.

I don’t see Johnson waiving his NMC when they are cup contenders.

Neither do I tbh, but I don’t know what to expect out of these trades. Even if Dmitri Orlov is Russian, Podkolzin is coming over regardless I think.

Johnson can still be traded to 19 teams so it's not impossible to trade him. However, I would assume that he would have all 7 canadian teams would be on his no-trade list.

Well he's American and probably doesn't want the hassle of Canada's travel restrictions for starters.
