Before the ED, it might be a good idea to sell a little high on Simek... might as well do that instead of losing him for nothing...

Simek is an interesting player. If Seattle takes him, than damn good for you, but I still see Sharks pulling some crazy Burns to Seattle trade, involving a 2nd round and Dahlen, I could be very far off, but we’ll see.

Since a player's value is never higher than it is during the TDL, I could see SJ moving Simek for a 2nd and a 3rd.

As for Burns, I don't think they expose him to Seattle. I think SJ views him as part of the franchise core. Especially since his 82 game production pace has never really dipped below 50+pts, it would be a lot easier to replace Simek than it would Burns.

I think the only justification to not trade Simek this TDL is if we are set on protecting him over Burns (I think we should but I get both sides of the argument).

I think replacing Burns is pretty easy to replace. He's net-negative despite his offensive prowess, because of how little he does on defense

There are plenty of arguments for trading Burns, but I think the biggest reason they don't is the fact that SJ is determined to rebuild the "Sharks Code" and to get the rookies up to speed fast, and Burns is every rookie's daddy in the locker room. He's core insofar as he's a vital part of the team's culture, much more so than Simek, Karlsson, or even Pickles.

I feel going forward your leadership/locker room group has to be - Hertl, Karlsson, Ferraro. Burns will be gone in a few years guaranteed, who knows what happens with Couture to be honest.
