Robertson + 1st is how the conversation starts for Forsberg. Not Rakell.

Robertson is the cheap seconday scoring the Leafs need for the next few years. He's the only prospect that can crack the top 9 (top 6) within the next few years. With the flat cap, he's super valuauble to the Leafs.

How do you view Robertson? It's pretty well indisputable that he's a top 12 pick 2020 pick if he's born 5 days later.

Those guys don't get traded for someone coming off 3 straight 50ish point seasons.

(speaking of Forsberg - this could be Erat for Forsberg Rd. 2)

I agree, you could make a deal for Forsberg with Robertson + a 1st too, but you would then have to find another taker on Andersen or Kerfoot most likely to make that work.

My logic with the Robertson + a 1st for Rakell is that the Leafs should be in win-now mode; this is likely their best chance to win a cup considering they are in the weaker all-Canadian division this year; all they've got to do is figure out how to get past the Jets and they'll find themselves in the final 4 where anything can happen. Unlikely to have to go against Boston, Tampa, Washington every single round like they might in another year.

The Ducks are about a year removed from where the Kings are, they start to compete next season, they have their franchise center, defenseman, and goalie ready.

I'm definitely in the minority on this but I think the Kings are going to take longer than most think to get back to contention. Probably along the same timeline as the Ducks IMO but we will see.

And that's likely what the Leafs are thinking (and should be thinking). That's also why Dubas has mentioned he's more interested in the rental market this year.

It makes way more sense to move Abramov + 2nd for a Granlund then it does moving Robertson + 1st for Rakell.

Rakell is a solid player, but having him for the extra year means signing Hyman this summer becomes that much harder. It also means the Leafs have to go 7+3 for the exp draft, and would end up with them losing a solid RHD playing 22min/night and makes $2M (Holl).

If playing with JT and Nylander boosts Rakell's production, it would make sense they'd have the same effect on Granlund.

Granlund also has no effect on the exp draft.

Too many cons in acquiring Rakell, esp if Robertson is involved.

It's arguable the Kings would be in a playoff spot if it was the regular Pacific Division, this is the first "play the kids year" so it's surprising they aren't that far out of a wildcard spot, 3rd in PP goals, 6th ranked PK, found a gem in Cal Petersen, still haven't iced the majority of their top prospects (Byfield, Turcotte, Kupari, Kaliyev or Madden), they are playing two rookie defensemen in the top-4, a rookie at 2nd and 3rd line center, and still closer to the middle of the pack than the bottom of the standings. They are icing the third youngest team and fighting teams way out of their weight class in their division (Knights, Blues, Wild, Avs). I'm not sure they are as far off as you think.

Yeah that's fair, but why are the Ducks trying to get their goalie back who will inevitably walk anyways.

That's fair, but just because Andersen does fill a need does not mean you turn down a complete steal. They could flip Andersen if this was the case then.

Kerfoot isn't an improvement on Iafallo even after you factor in the extra two years of term. And Iafallo doesn't play center; he's exclusively a LW.

Didn't you get the memo? Most Toronto fans think Kerfoot is worth a 2nd.

1) I'm not even a Leafs fan
2) The memo isn't that he's worth a 2nd, it's that him + conditional picks are worth more than Iafallo since Kerfoot has another year of term at an alright cap hit while Iafallo is about to become a UFA.

I really dislike when poster say trade for player A and you can flip him. If that is the case you flip him and then give the pick. If Anderson would get hurt, his value is zero and then at the end of the year he walks and the team is holding nothing. For rebuilding teams that is a chance not worth the risk.

Oh, I don't disagree. Flipping players isn't really a good strategy, because their value could go down or they could get injured. See Derek Stepan for example.
But the point is, Robertson and a 1st are worth way more than Rakell, and Andersen should not be the reason Anaheim turns it down.

No, not many leafs fans think he's worth a second. But he's worth something, which is something some non leafs fans don't seem to get.

Ok if your not a Leafs fan then why does my comment bother you? I didn't make any comments about your trade.

Ok but since the end of last season I've seen quite a few ACGMs with Kerfoot going to Detroit for a 2nd round pick. Including one from yesterday or the day before.
