Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Leivo, Josh
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Flames are still sniffing a playoff spot, and although Sutter isn't exactly going to go on and light it up, he will most certainly provide stability in the bottom 6. A 3rd line of Lucic, Sutter and Bennett just might be nasty to play against.

Leivo is in the deal to make cap work. 2nd rounder maybe ambitious, but cap hit is being eaten. Honestly, will settle.for a 3rd.
CGY
  1. Sutter, Brandon ($2,150,000 retained)
2.
VAN
  1. 2021 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Bruins need seck dary scoring. Pearson has been lack luster this season, but his track record suggests he can fit the Bruins bill.
3.
VAN
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Benn, Jordie
Additional Details:
The biggest surprise of this season is likely to add low cost depth. Benn might be an upgrade in Nutrivaara as the 7th D.

And as I said, I would settle for a 3rd.

Point is if Calgary misses Treveling is gone imo. He is gonna do something. And playing for a relative may light a fire under Sutter. Lucic-Sutter-Bennet would be the nastiest 3rd unit in the NHL.

All sorts of reasons why this actually makes sense.

Sutter gets you a 4th or 5th.
Pearson would be worth a 2nd, but with him now injured past the deadline, I see them only getting a 3rd potentially with some conditions about him playing.
Benn is worth a 5th or 6th.

Pearson out at least 4 weeks. Kind of dampens his secondary scoring from the trainer's table.

Seattle would have to be well compensated to take Holtby. Better off buying him out than trading Woo and DiPietro for Seattle to take him...

I might agree, accept Holtby just might be the best option available. Nucks are set up rather well for the expansion draft.

If the Nucks move Woo, I would be saying Ericcson.

Sutter is worth morr than a mid rounder..... a solid 3rd line option for a contending team - or in this case - a GM likely trading to save a job. With salary being retained and adding a contract that has been a flop in Calgary, the value isn't far off imo.

Pearson - point taken.

Benn - hard to gauge. He can defintely play, but has been terrible as a Canuck. That just may hurt his value despite his track record.

Thing with Sutter is even at 50% retained, thats still over $2M in cap space. I guess if you manage to take a contract back, but still, hard to see him getting that much value in my opinion. I guess well see.

Gonna be a strange deadline. Canadian teams have fewer options as we get closer to D-Day. My thinking is no quarentine etc, getting a 2nd or 3rd is doable.

He has been a 40-50 point player for a few years. This year no, but I would say for a team looking for secondary scoring, he isn't a bad option at all.

But if you guys wanna give up a 1st for Palmieri, have at it.

Treliving just hired a coach for three years, Treliving's contract is up in three years, they will ride it out, the thought that he gets fired at the end of this season if they miss is out in left field.
They see what they have with this group under Sutter this year, if they miss, they miss, they can go through the off season with a plan in place based on Sutter coaching and adjust for next year. NExt two years is their competitive window, they don't start winning in that time it's a full reset, new GM, new coach, new core etc etc.

I don't understand the 'Holtby might be the best option available' part. Seattle takes no one is a better option. Gadjovich is a better option. Their will be 8-10 players that would be better options than a 5th or 6th goalie...

No one in the NHL is giving assets of note for Sutter - just not happening

What? Lol. Theor competitve window has been the last 3 years and they are sputtering at best. Given what Treveling did this offseason, I don't care if it's e years or 10 - if they miss his direction clesrly isn't working. Take the hit and change the GM.

🤔🤔🤔🤔 a 2nd (or 3rd as I said) in a season amy scouting department will tell you they haven't been able to do their job due to protocols and shutdowns, in a draft said to be the shallowest in about 5-6 years.

Is a 2nd or 3rd therefore really the big an asset?

Maybe. Depends on what direction Seattle takes. Are they wanting to compete Vegas style.out of the gate or build ground up?

Worst case Holtby is a backup for a year. Not exactly a loss there either.

It’s like you’re trying to be wrong. Flames ownership notoriously try not to spend on two guys at once. They don’t retain salary, they don’t throw money at things that don’t need it. Treliving will finish his tenure and so will Sutter. They get a new rink in three years and the ownership group will figure out who is who then so they can fill the seats. There is literally every indication that Treliving finishes these three years, just cause you think he won’t is not a valid argument.

Not that I just think he won't, it's a team that looks mediocre and pesdestrian for the last 3 years when the window is wide open. He had what I would call a great offseason whereby I thouhht this team would challenge for the division. Instead, it sputtered, a coach is gone.

Just saying if they miss (and they look lile a different team under Sutter), Treveling should be in the crosshairs.

I will be bold enough to say Bergevin is done if/when Montreal misses.

Futility can last only so long.
