The forward depth is great on this team with a "5th line" of Roussel-Sutter-MacEwen (and Eriksson and Michaelis to spare). Toffoli and Vesey is the obvious upgrade on Pearson. Leivo and the soon coming (April) Podkozlin, are the obvious upgrades on Virtanen looking long term. Domingue to taxi squad gives DiPietro his desperately needed playing time in the AHL. I don't believe the Holtby signing was avoidable in any way, at the time, he was the perfect choice for a "one year stand, expose to Seattle" option. As for the Pearson Virtanen trade it could have even been a 2nd and a 3rd, I just feel we would've gotten a big return considering how good they looked at the end of the season, plus the retention on Pearson which could even go up to 800,000 but no higher, just so the habs could still be cap compliant.
