1.
PHI
  1. Dumba, Matt
Additional Details:
Dumba is having a great year. However, the Wild are kinda forced to go 8-1 in the Expansion Draft and lose an important forward if no one waives. If they go 7-3-1, they'd lose Dumba.
MIN
  1. Patrick, Nolan [RFA Rights]
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (PHI)
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Now with Dumba, Philly gets a solid RD and they could go 8-1 in the Expansion Draft if they want to hold onto Myers, protecting Couturier-Konecny-Hayes-Giroux. Losing Lindblom could suck, but Philly's depth at forward can attenuate the loss.

Laughton and Sanheim get paid a little less and a little more value for Haag, but other than that I like it. Philly needs that top pair right defenseman and Dumba would fill that role. Plus, the Wild are kind of in a panic with the Expansion Draft considering they either lose Dumba or at the very least Foligno or Johansson.

How is Nolan playing this year? Is he finding his game a bit more? If so I’d take that.

While it's true Minny needs to go 8-1 in order to protect Dumba, it doesn't mean we are forced to make a trade where we give him away for free. No. It hurts to lose Greenway to Seattle, sure, but we are not trading Dumba unless we get great value: a top-6-C or a first +.

I’d push back on the idea that there is an expansion issue in MIN. If it’s a difference of losing Dumba or Greenway for nothing, there is no question they protect Dumba. I think your logic is fine to get a bit of leverage but it’s a no brainer to go 4-4-1 if we still have Dumba. I still go back and forth on Patrick, I just don’t know if he’s still got the top 6 potential anymore.

Sadly, in the end I think the Wild are going to go 7/3/1 and lose Dumba. Guerin doesn't want to ruin the chemistry that this year's team has, but also needs to protect all the young forwards. Although I don't mind taking a chance on this trade, I do think that we lose Dumba to expansion in the end. My thought is to trade a lesser prospect (definitely not Alex Tuch-esque prospect like Matt Boldy) and a high draft pick to take Ryan Hartman's signing rights. We can't afford him after this year and he'd be a great addition to a new franchise!

Good news is he’s playing. From what I’ve heard, he hasn’t been the guy they thought they’d draft but he probably becomes a higher end middle 6 guy. PHI is showing confidence in him through his struggles though so I’m not completely opposed.

Not a chance. Greenway hurts but no way you protect him to lose Dumba. Greenway is a fringe top 6 guy and Dumba is a top pair defense man. Couple that with Boldy coming in next year and we can easily replace what we lose with Greener, and teams lose the expansion leverage in a Dumba deal.

PS: Ignore this. Saw we won’t lose him in expansion. Apologies.

Let me try this again, after better understanding your point. I agree that Dumba won’t be here next year but I’m not sold he’ll be gone before expansion. I think he is how we get a guy like a Frost or a Patrick and that might mean we have to protect Dumba. I’m also lower on Greenway’s ceiling than others so that informs my view.

Haha it's alright man. I agree that Boldy could come in and help right away but just to be devil's advocate, couldn't Calen Addison arguably do the same?

@RazWild And I talked about this yesterday and we both think he is close to being a legit top 4 guy that can play with Brodin next year. The argument for protecting Dumba is not to ensure he stays on the team but to ensure we get the best return possible. I’d rather get a center prospect we feel really good about and lose Greenway than get a guy we’re ho hum on to protect Greenway.

Ah, I see. That makes sense. I just didn't know where you were coming from! I've been very impressed with how he's come into the AHL and played extremely well.

But in terms of trade return, you are right, Dumba is worth more.

Addison has 8 pts in 9 games in Iowa, I’d say he’s doing well. Hopefully he gets another look if Dumba needs a few extra games off.
