1.
VAN
  1. Johnson, Erik
Additional Details:
Trade deadline deal:
Van gets: Erik Johnson.
Avs get: Tanner Pearson (50% retained), Jalen Chatfield, re-signed for 2 more years.

Erik Johnson has a M-NTC and an NMC, so unless they want to expose an extra defenseman out of their core that consists of Devon Toews, Cale Makar, Samuel Girard and Ryan Graves, they will have to trade him. He probably wont return this season, and they want a playoff push so they acquire Pearson and a young defenseman in return. Vancouver now gets a capable RD

If EJ waives for VAN why wouldn’t he just waive for the expansion draft because it is highly unlikely Seattle takes him with guys like Graves, Compher, Donskoi and Francouz likely available and allowing them to protect Makar, Girard and Toews?

He HAS to give a 19 team trade list, like it or not. Why wouldn't he wanna join Vancouver, where he can be an integral part of our team?

Honestly, he might not want to risk it, especially if Colorado gives the Kraken a pick to take him instead of Graves. If he doesn't waive, he is guaranteed to stay. And moreover Colorado can't assume that he'll waive, and he must give a trade list, so instead of risking it, they can just trade him. And just really stop being boring, he has a 19 teams trade list, and. Vancouver might be on it

True, though Armageddon situation would be a buy out. I don’t think Sakic wants him to go to Seattle because of his commitment to the team, how good he is in the locker room and how good he is on the ice when he is healthy but that last part is the rub.
