Is Anyone Else Sick of the Divisions

Description
I don't know if I'm on an island here, but I just don't enjoy 10 battle's of Alberta a year, I don't like seeing the Habs, Leafs, Senators 9 times a year. It's boring and I have watched way less Flames hockey this year than any other. I find myself tuning in to watch literally anything else, I watch a the Rangers and Caps game the other night when the Flames were beating the Leafs.

I miss divisional games at the start and the end of the year, I like when Calgary sees Edmonton once or twice at the start of the year and once or twice at the end during a stretch run!

I know it's a bizarre year and they are really doing a great job of getting through the season during a pandemic but I cannot wait to get back to watching the Flames on a California road trip or at Madison Square Garden on a Staurday afternoon!

I guarantee, if we had full capacity fans in the building, you'd enjoy the division way more.

Ill take hockey over no hockey any day of the week but we're kidding ourselves if you think the emotional investment from both viewers and players alike is as high as it would normally be.

Oh that probably is a huge effect on it, even then though, I have been a season ticket holder for years in Calgary and knowing the Saddledome fairly well, the 6, 7, 8th battle of Alberta would be a drag in comparison to what it usually is, our tickets are the first row on the second deck so it isn't as alive as you often get in the press level because a lot of those seats are corporate but I know a lot of people would be hard pressed to spend that money on that many games in a year.

Either way I am looking forward to getting back to a regular schedule but like you said I will take a year of this if it means there is hockey to watch!

I agree with you. We didn't get to see much of the West Coast teams before, but at least there was 2 games per year against every team. Now I'm getting a bit sick of always playing the Flames or the Canucks.

As a jets fan I do miss the central division rivals, but I do like the Canadian divison for this year. It's been pretty damn good hockey and super entertaining most nights.
That being said...i miss the other teams. Maybe the Canadian division can stay (impractical)

I miss seeing every team twice honestly, but there are a few things I do enjoy about this season. Playing a team twice in 3 days (without travel) is interesting and is kind of fun. However, I'm not sure how they make that work when things hopefully go back to normal next season and you have 31 other teams.

It's been a tough season/year. Like you, I find myself watching other games more than my regular teams.

I think a big difference is that usually if Calgary plays Winnipeg it will be an event, it will be Saturday night, you can go out, razz your Calgary buddies but now it's like, do I really want to spend a Tuesday night watching hockey? I miss the excitement that came with the Canadian matchups, not that the hockey isn't good but surrounding the game.

Of course it is less dynamic, but am I sick of it? Not at all, knowing there is no workable alternative.

Also, I think there is a lull right now as teams are really unsure, especially in Canada, what makes sense as far as the trade deadline and when to pull the trigger on efforts to make a run.

I think that, after the TDL, whatever happens with it, the stretch run will get intense. There could be some wild mini series scenarios near the end that determine the playoff fate of a couple of teams. For example, the Flames play the Habs April 22, 24, 26th. Good chance they will both be in a good battle with eachother for perhaps the 4th spot. Then right after that two games against the Oil where, either the Flames will be fighting for playoff lives against their rivals, or perhaps both teams if the Oil have slipped as well.

All in all, I think the best is really yet to come with the competition. This pre-TDL time of year always renders teams and their management a bit unsure of what they will be pushing for come the end of the season.

I enjoy the optimism and I sure hope you're right. I also think with the time of year right now we would be 2 weeks away from the playoffs and there would be that ramped up energy. My internal clock works based off of ski season and golf season so I'm in the transition phase right now and the playoffs aren't starting!! Hahaha
