Lol, you gotta give up Sandin or Robertson to get Ellis, if not both.

If you land Ellis that defense suddenly becomes very solid.

Not sure what to believe on this. Haven't seen the article yet (if you could link it that'd be appreciated), but Friedman was also the guy that reported at the start of March that the only untouchables on Nashville were Josi, Ellis, and Rinne. Hard to imagine that's changed that much in less than 3 weeks.

I don’t think leafs would be interested in his contract.

They should be! They would be better off with Ellis than with Nylander imo.

It’s a scary contract no doubt. But the window is 2-3 years while the current core is locked up. It’s not crazy to make the run right now and Ellis is a guy that really puts you over the top. If you could get it him for Sandin plus I think you’ve gotta do it.

David Polile listed Ellis as one of his untouchables along with Josi and Rinne doubt that's changed. And those pieces are nowhere near enough for Ellis. Any deal for Ellis starts with one of Amirov/Robertson/Sandin and then add accordingly.

Leafs have a bigger need for top 6 winger and are good on defence, how does that make any sense?

Given Ellis' current status, trading him doesn't seem too likely right now.

That being said, NSH declines. If you have to throw nine assets into a trade for two players, they're not the right assets.

If I was Dubas I would avoid Ellis. Hes 30 with 6 more years remaining after this one and has had significant injuries in both of the past 2 seasons

So Ellis is on IR, is 30 years old, 6.5m years left on his contract. And he seems to regressed this season. Leafs really can't afford him next season(s).
No team would offer so much in a trade. IMO I can't see the Leafs being remotely interested.
Leafs would prefer to keep 1m Liljegren and have 5m to spend elsewhere plus keep all those prospects rather than Ellis
Granlund doesn't offer that much value to the Leafs.

Just because a GM announces that publicly it means nothing. No team would offer as much as was proposed in this deal. Leafs can spend 6m on a UFA next summer, keep their picks and be better team.

Champions are built from the net out. I don't think Holl as a 2RD says champion.

True Treliving said the same thing about Dougie Hamilton, And within 2 days he was dealt to the Canes. If a team offers Poile a deal he can't refuse on Ellis he'll deal him.

Ellis is not the guy to put the Leafs or any team over the top. Plus he has been injured. Leafs core is locked up for 3 years, and then will need those cheap good players on ELCs or first RFA contracts to fill the lineup, not an aging 6.25m Ellis. And for the future...just talking next season, I would prefer to have Hyman and Sandin and Liljegren making a total of 7m than Ellis at 6.25m

He said it on the new addition of the 31 thoughts pod cast that was dropped today. Said when he reported the 3 untouchables he got push back from people originally and that they are going to be picking which one to move ekholm or Ellis. Said teams are not super into giving that much up for ekholm with him only having one year left and more people are talking about Ellis and the predators are looking at it making decisions soon

???? You're calling the Preds champs? Josi, Ellis, and Ekblom making 19m and Nashville 24th in GAA. I'll easily take 2m Holl and 4m to rent a player rather than the injured, declining Ellis.

The Ellis move is very risky. Coming off surgery, and really handicapping the team cap wise for years to come. I would way rather have Ekholm right now. That way the Leafs could still have a semi-active offseason - hoping that Freddie walks and we get an Antti Raanta or a James Reimer to platoon with Campbell. Mikhail Granlund simply isn't good anymore, and I would be very sceptical about giving up much for him. Jarnkrok is much better and cheaper financially. Although Ekholm and Forsberg draw more value, with salary retention, the team would be much better off as opposed to allocating 6.5+ million to another player over a long term. Leafs could end up like SJ if we continue to act that way.
