Bobby Ryan is not worth a second at this point. Outside of the first like 10 games of this season he has been a third liner for like 2-3 years

Tbh I really don’t see the need for acquiring ANOTHER veteran. We’re overflowing with vets.

You think you’re getting a bonafide top 6 player @1M for a late second rounder?

I doubt the leafs acquire him but I think our disagreement is calling him a bonafide top 6 er

Over the last two years he has 11 goals and 21 points in 53 gp. So about 0.2 gpg and 0.4 ppg. That's a borderline top 6er.

But it gets worse. His goal scoring is essentially a hot streak to start this year.

Without the 4 goals he scored in those three games he has scored 7 goals and 17 points in 50 games.

That's a borderline 3rd liner.

Power to the guy for all he's overcome. It's a lot and I love seeing him have success. But I wouldn't spend all that much to acquire him

I never called him a top 6 player but rather pointed out it’s a late second round draft pick. He’s currently .45 P/G
on Detroit which is self explanatory that our offense is garbage. He is what he is, depth scoring (third line) and with his contract he has more suitors. So essentially what I’m saying is you get what you pay for.

You most certainly did call him a top 6 player. As you can see in your quote you even called him a bonafide top 6 player

I asked a question, to get down to the root of your initial comment. Top 6 players that make 1M aren’t moved or if they are moved they cost a lot more than a late second rounder. I asked my question to get to this point. If you don’t like Bobby Ryan that’s fine, just state that. My second comment explains what my initial comment was asking you and boils down to you get what you pay for. If you want a top 6 player then you’d need to cough up the assets to do so and it will cost more because you’d need to ship a bit of cap out considering you have roughly ~750k at the TDL. This point was why I brought up Ryan’s salary but probably could’ve spelled out only ELCs have that salary and they’re not getting moved. So no I didn’t call Bobby Ryan a top 6 player but posed a question to you so we can get down to the root of your initial comment’s argument using logic and reasoning.

To answer your question (which I did misread, I appreciate your clarification): I would break down what a "bonafide top 6 player" is, as its a pretty big group. For arguments sake lets just stick with wingers, as C's are by definition more valuable. We'll assume its a pending UFA winger at the TDL with either 1 M as you said, or a small enough contract that numerous contenders can take them.

(note the below are what they've shown they can do repeatedly and are doing this year)
I'd break "top 6" winger down to
legit second line winger (20-25 g scorer 40-50 point scorer)
Borderline first liner (25 ish, 50-55ish)
first liner not superstar (30+ goals/60-70 points)
superstar (35+/point per game)

So I'm going to assume your question is referring to legit second line winger/borderline first liner.

I'd expect it to depend on how many buyers, how many sellers, as the cost varies a lot by years.

A cheap year would be a 3rd and a meh prospect all the way to an expensive year being a first and good but not blue chip prospect.

By the looks of this year, I suspect guys like Pearson may only get a second and middling prospect, but time will tell.

Yeah, there are a ton of factors like supply and demand, contract term or $, NTC/NMC, and player style or attributes. I think a 3rd based on your parameters is a little off even in a weak year. For example the 19 TDL had a crazy amount of sellers (supply) and Detroit traded Nyquist w/ a NTC to SJ for a second rounder and conditional third that could turn into a second rounder. He’s fit that category of player you described but had a NTC which he waived, this is speculation on my part and rumor based but was talked into SJ by Sorenson, Karlsson, and Kronwall. There was a picture of the four of them before a game talking and the Swedes on the team were extremely close.

This year is interesting as the draft isn’t great and cap isn’t in great supply. NA teams trading to Canada require a 2 week quarantine so they’d need to pull the trigger earlier. Will teams on the cusp or chasing for the final spot in their division sell? I’d expect both. Then you have expansion draft planning on top of all that. The next couple weeks are definitely going to be exciting to see who makes moves and doesn’t.

I've always had trouble figuring out who nyqvist is/was.

He came into the league with like 28 goals and 48 points in like 58 games. That's like a 40 goal 65 point pace
The next year he has high 20s again. Then he was a 15ish goal/45ish point player for a while

But the year he was traded he was on a 60-65ish point pace again. Weird guy.

But I see your point.

I am GUESSING the quarantine between Canadian and American teams will have a huge impact but we shall see. Will certainly be exciting.
