This is a joke right?

Jonathan Quick is probably the worst goalie in the NHL at this point I'm his career.

Edited to correct: he's playing a little better than I thought so we'll change it to one of the worst.

Dudes done though. And that's nothing to be ashamed of. He was a rock for a few years and instrumental on two cups. He's just at the end of his career

He's far from the worst goalie in the league, but I don't think he'd be a huge help to Toronto going forward.

I corrected myself but I wouldn't say far from the worst.

I should have said worst starter or near starter.

Over the last three seasons there have been 33 goalies who have over 85 games played. Quick and Jones are tied for last in save percentage with an 0.896. That's awful.

Quick is no better than Freddie. And I certainly wouldn't trade Sandin for a UFA, who isn't a big upgrade on what we have now....And then both players are three weeks away from seeing NHL ice once the trade is made.

Taking on quick for three years is worth a first alone.

I would not take iaffallo and quick 50% retained without a first coming along. Quick is bad

Eh, it doesn't excuse him simply being bad. Quick is riding his reputation from early career success. He's awful at this point

If quick is included being stuck with him for 3 years at nearly 3 million then Iafallo is not enough to take him. He's terrible at this point. People can't see that as he was an excellent goal tender for about a decade prior but he hit a wall three years ago

Don't have to be stuck with him....you send Seatle a 3rd round pick to take Quick next year...if he is retained @ 50% that gives them a vet goalie backup at a reasonable price for 2 years and we can protect Campbell for draft expansion

Why would they or anyone else want him?

He isn't a "vet goalie" that you want to back up. He sucks. He provides no positive value and just makes his team worse.

they just buy quick out, it's really no that much of an issue, he LTIRs.
TOR has deep pockets so no big deal.
It's a moot point.

Buying him out leave him stuck on our cap. Why would we want that cap hit? And why would he agree to go on ltir if he wants to stay?

Would you say the same thing about the Lucic contract or the erricson contract?

The quick contract is awful and has a very large negative value.

LTIR doesn't give you a cap hit.
It's a lot easier to justify a Bishop LTIR retiring than a Lucic one. Lucic is only 32 this year. Quick is 35.
That's a pretty huge difference.

The player has to agree to it... If quick was willing to do that, la would just do that and not bother to trade him. There is no reason for Toronto to get in the middle of this.

TOR has deeper pockets. I wouldn't put it past quick to agree. He has no clauses. You put him on waivers, then down to the AHL. He'll retire ltir.

If for whatever reason Toronto agreed to this (and btw ltir is not as clean as you think, it only comes into play whenat the cap ceiling, so it stops the team from being able to build cap room later in the season to acquire free agents) the leafs would expect to be paid to do so.

And again as the cost would be cap space (either in the general sense if he plays or being forced into the ltir window where they can't bank cap space to acquire players at the tdl), the leafs would have no interest.

I would't give up Sandin for that. Liljegren and maybe a second to get retention on Iaffalo. Then you could snag Eric Staal and Brandon Montour from BUF and find a way to get rid of Kerfoot's contract. Leafs need to go all in not just half in and I don't see this roster quite capable enough yet. 3C needs improvement.

Gibson or Kuemper would be MUCH better even if the Leafs give up more to get them. Freddie is inconsistent but when he is on his game he is a better goalie than Quick

Because apparently he and Campbell have a great friendship off the ice.....as for why anyone else would want him they'd do it for a pick or prospect
