CBJ and STL would be my choices. I would LOVE Ekholm but in no way want to give up Samberg. I agree he would be the ask though.

With Stanley figuratively having a giant growth year, I worry that Samberg will get lost in the shuffle and the Jets end up Roslovicing him. Ekholm's remaining contract fits very well with Heinola and Stanley's development. DeMelo can be exposed.

Hahaha, I'm glad you clarified his giant growth year tears of joy I definitely see where you're coming from though. I've been protecting DeMelo in my Seattle Mock Expansions but the more Stanley plays...the more likely I see him getting protected. DeMelo also isn't living up to his contract.

If they lose DeMelo and his 2 more years at $3M, that can easily be replaced via free agency during another flat cap offseason. Stanley has more upside and can probably accept a 2 year bridge at or below $1.5M.

I agree 100%. At the beginning of the year I would have said DeMelo was a lock to be protected over...STANLEY?! Crazy how things change over the year haha.

Ekholm and Jensen, even if you have to overpay.

I would really like to see next year's defense pairings being

Ekholm-Pionk
Morrissey-Savard
Stanley-Poolman

* Beaulieu playing ECHL

2022-23 being

Morrissey-Pionk
Heinola-Savard
Stanley-Poolman/Samberg

Ekholm and Savard are the only ones I would do. Although I think that is an overpay for Savard and I'd prefer to keep Samberg, but that may be what it takes. I think the Jets will be out on Ekholm though due to the cost.

But why would the Jets want to downgrade from Demelo to Hamonic?

I like the looks of those pairings but I have to think Heinola makes the team full time next year. Admittedly, I am not a HUGE Poolman fan (he's alright), so going off your lines for next year mine would look like:

Ekholm - Pionk

Morrissey - Savard

Stanley - Heinola

Heinola has played his off-side in Finland and there was an interview (I can't find it at the moment) where he stated he doesn't mind playing either right or left.

To get out of the contract. DeMelo hasn't been playing very well IMO. Only thing he has going for him is that he shoots R.

His Opportunities are far better on the right side. He could be paired with Morrissey as soon as next year if he plays right. Stanley-Savard would be a menacing shut down pair.

Throwing him away for nothing though isn't a good solution. You might be using a very heavy dose of recency bias for your opinion of Demelo though.

Dunn is not available, and we're sure not trading him to what will again soon be a division rival.

I havent been happy with Demelo this year, but I agree...throwing him away for nothing doesnt make much sense. I would like the jets to bring Hamonic in and give him a chance to steal minutes from Demelo and then maybe re-sign in the offseason. I just dont get how the jets dont have interest in a local right shot Dman who's played big minutes in this league. Sure he isnt NYI Hamonic, but as a third pairing guy making under 2 mill makes a lot of sense to me

Yeah, you would think he would make sense. I just don't know if the Jets will inquire about him or not. There must have been some reason the Jets didn't look at him in the summer, so I'm thinking there is something about him the Jets scouts don't like.

If you were Chevy, and the roster remains the same, would you protect DeMelo or Stanley from the expansion draft?

I would protect Stanley, or make a deal with Seattle to keep both, depending on the cost.

Wouldn't touch Ekholm or Savard at that price, really overpaying for Savard here, he hasn't been very good this year and shouldn't give up on Vesalainen yet.

The Blues and Canucks trades are fine but the Blues aren't letting Dunn go that cheaply if they even have interest in trading him and if the Canucks want to take on DeMelo and his contract then great, they can have him.

Lol people really sleep on Demelo. He carried the ghost of Morrissey and if you watch him play he is steady, and the numbers back that up. Sure he is not super flashy and get a ton of offence but he doesn't have to. This is similar to people who thought Enstrom sucked even though he was usually real good for us.

Unless I am wrong but isn't Hamonic playing with Hughes? If this is the case then I would trade him for DeMelo but I think DeMelo won't be traded this year for depth reasons but hopefully exposed and taken in the expansion draft. If Hamonic works out this year resign him next year and maybe this is Morrissey partner we have been looking for.

As much I as like Ekholm- Samberg, Heinola, or Perfetti should not be included in this trade.
